IceDogs Claim Victory over Bulldogs for the First Time Since 2019
BRANTFORD, ON – After being down in the first period, to winning the second, the IceDogs have beat the Bulldogs for the first time since 2019.
Following a tough loss on Thursday, followed by a momentous win last night, this team has proven one thing: you can never count them out. Having yet to lose two games in a row this season, Head Coach Ben Boudreau said, they are, “A resilient group weathered the storm and bonded together to overcome adversity.”
Owen Flores was the story of the first period, stopping 18 of 19 shots despite a broken stick and facing heavy traffic in front of the net.
The only goal he allowed came on the power play, as Brantford struggled to generate consistent offense. Though Niagara was heavily outshot 19-2, Flores’ resilience kept the IceDogs in the game, preventing a larger deficit and ensuring they remained competitive heading into the second period.
Brantford opened the second with another goal. That didn’t last for long as Ryan Roobroeck netted his 13th of the season, assisted by Ethan Czata, who recorded his 8th assist of the year (2-1).
One wasn’t enough for Kevin He (2-2), with 23 seconds left in the period He fired one past Ryerson Leenders giving the IceDogs a 3-2 lead heading into the third.
Two crucial goals from Max Crete and Jack Brauti put the IceDogs up 5-2. The Bulldogs fought back, scoring two of their own to narrow the IceDogs’ lead to a 1 goal lead. It came down to the wire, with the Bulldogs pressing to force overtime, but huge saves from Flores kept the IceDogs’ lead intact. He sealed the win with an empty-net goal, completing his second career hat trick and giving the IceDogs a 6-4 victory. The IceDogs head to Guelph next Friday Night and are back at Home on Sunday to face off against the Bulldogs once again.
