IceDogs Claim Revenge Over Otters
NIAGARA, ON – The Niagara IceDogs surged late in the third period Sunday afternoon to move to (27-15-2-2) on the season, after a 6-3 win over the Erie Otters.
Erie opened the scoring in the first period with Tyler Challenger capitalizing on the power play, followed by Pano Fimis extending their lead in the second frame to make it 2-0 Otters.
However, the IceDogs roared back with Ryan Roobroeck netting a power-play goal late in the second to give the IceDogs some life.
From that point on, the IceDogs turned the tables and took control in the third, with Andrei Loshko and Max Crete scoring just six seconds apart to take the lead 3-2.
Noah Van Vliet added the eventual game-winner at 16:27, and despite a late Erie goal by Pano Fimis, Sean Doherty secured the win with an empty-netter insurance marker.
Pouring it on in the last gasp was Matthew Virgilio, who capped it off with a power-play insurance goal in the final seconds of regulation to send fans home happy with a free cheeseburger thanks to the Wendy’s and IceDogs’ cheeseburger promotion.
Ryan Roobroeck and Sean Doherty led the way for Niagara, each contributing multiple points in the impressive win.
The IceDogs are back in action on Saturday, February 1st against the Barrie Colts at the Sadlon Arena at 7:30 PM.
