IceDogs Can’t Outlast Otters
ERIE, PA – The Niagara IceDogs lost a heartbreaker on Friday night to move to (26-15-2-2) on the season, after a 3-2 shootout loss against the Erie Otters.
Right from the beginning of the contest, it was clear that this matchup would be a battle of the goaltenders. With both Owen Flores and Noah Erliden coming into tonight with impressive numbers, it was set to become a tale of the tendy’s tonight.
The IceDogs struck first on a crafty finish late in the first frame from Ethan Czata, to give Niagara the first goal of the game.
The second period of action was led by the play of the Otters however, as two quick goals suddenly gave Erie the lead less than seven minutes into the period.
However, this lead did not last for long – as a perfectly placed shot by Ryan Roobroeck tied the game up at 2-2, giving #25 his team-leading 31st goal on the campaign.
With close calls and countless chances back and forth, the game begrudgingly headed into the extra frame of overtime, then progressing to a sudden-death shootout.
After four straight misses by Niagara shooters, Martin Misiak scored to give Erie the 3-2 shootout victory.
Owen Flores had a fantastic night in between the pipes for Niagara, as 45 saves plus three additional stops in the shootout was unfortunately only enough for one point tonight.
The IceDogs are back in action on Sunday, January 26th against the Erie Otters once again at the Meridian Centre at 2:00 PM.
