IceDogs Beat Petes on New Year’s Eve
NIAGARA, ON – The Niagara IceDogs roared into 2025 on a high note Tuesday night, improving to (23-11-1-1) on the season, after a 3-2 Win against the Peterborough Petes.
The first period definitely brought lots of fireworks and action. The Petes got off to a quick start, burying the first two goals of the game in 13 minutes. After the Petes second goal, Niagara responded with pace, with a goal from Ethan Czata just 15 seconds after. Braidy Wassilyn also followed up the IceDogs first marker less than two minutes later by scoring his sixth marker of the season to tie the game at 2-2.
The second period was much quieter scoring-wise than the first, with a combined zero goals scored. Both Easton Rye and Owen Flores made their fair share of great stops to keep the game even during the scoreless frame.
The final twenty minutes were hard fought, with both teams striving for the next goal. The IceDogs were granted a five minute Power Play with just over 16 minutes left in the third period, on a Checking to Head Major Penalty for the Petes. However, they were unable to capitalize on the man-advantage. The deadlock was finally broken nearly 16 minutes into the third frame, with a tipped shot by Mathieu Paris in front of the net – ending up to be the game-winning goal for the IceDogs as they took the contest 3-2!
The IceDogs are back in action on Friday January 3rd against the London Knights at Canada Life Place at 7:00 pm.
