IceDogs Beat Colts In Full Team Effort
NIAGARA, ON – The Niagara IceDogs defeat the Barrie Colts at the Meridian Centre off the back of 28 saves from Owen Flores.
Final Score: NIA 5 – BAR 2
Starting Goaltenders: Owen Flores (Niagara) – Sam Hillebrandt (Barrie)
The first period wouldn’t provide much entertainment as the the two teams were held scoreless through the opening frame. Both teams would find some scoring chances but the respective goalies would shut the door.
The IceDogs got off to a quick start in the second period as a Connor Federkow shot hit off of the mask of Colts goaltender, Sam Hillebrandt, and bounced right to Gavin Bryant who slid it home into the open net to open the scoring. The IceDogs would add another one several minutes as a Mike Levin shot squeaked past Hillebrandt. Levin’s fifth of the season would put the IceDogs up two goals. The goals would keep coming for the IceDogs as Michael Podolioukh would find himself on a shorthand breakaway and he made no mistake beating Hillebrandt through the five-hole. Podolioukh’s shorthanded marker would make it seven shorthanded goals on the year for the IceDogs, tying them for the most in the OHL.
Heading into the final frame down three, the Colts would show no quit as they would score two goals under a minute apart to make it a 3-2 game. The Colts would eventually pull the goalie and put the pressure on the IceDogs. However, Flores would stand tall as the IceDogs would score two empty net goals via Kevin He and Ryan Roobroeck.
