IceDogs and Wolves bite hard and often during 2nd matchup in as many weeks
NIAGARA, ON – The IceDogs welcomed in the Sudbury Wolves for another Central Division matchup in less than a week in Niagara. The IceDogs took the first matchup by a 6-2 score but the Wolves bit back with a 5-2 win in front of over 5,000 fans at the Meridian Centre. Owen Flores stopped 43 shots in the loss, tending the twine in back-to-back nights.
Starting Goaltenders: Owen Flores (NIAG), Nate Krawchuk (SBY)
The Wolves would get on the board almost immediately to open the scoring as DeGrazia potted in the rebound, which would be the only scoring of the first period.
Sudbury would get another quick period goal as Boudreau would put it in just less than two minutes into the middle period. The play was reviewed but upheld to extend the visitors lead. A point shot was deflected by Coughlan to extend the visitors lead to three just moments after.
Nathan Ribau dropped the gloves with Djibril Toure to get the Meridian Centre crowd going midway through the period. Boudreau would extend the lead for the visitors after the midperiod break.
The IceDogs would get on the board as Andrew LeBlanc would find Declan Waddick who went backhand roof on Krawchuk for his 21st of the season. On the next shift a point shot by Jacob LeBlanc would bounce around and Declan Waddick would coral and fire a puck top shelf for his second of the period. The goal was overturned for an offside, keeping it a three-goal differential going into the middle break.
The final period would bring a lot of physical play and after the whistle extra-curricular activity between these Central Division rivals. The IceDogs would get another powerplay after a McCallum roughing penalty and Andrew LeBlanc buries his 13th goal of the season in the slot to cut the Wolves lead to two.
Sudbury extended their lead to three just after the midway point and that would be the final score on this Friday Night in front of over 5,000 fans at the Meridian Centre. Niagara will finish off their 3-game homestand on Sunday vs the Barrie Colts, another Central Division opponent.
