Ethan Czata Claims Gold at the 2024 Hlinka Gretzky Cup
EDMONTON, AB – IceDogs forward, Ethan Czata captures the gold medal with Team Canada at the 2024 Hlinka Gretzky Cup in Edmonton, AB after defeating Czechia 2-1 in the final at Rogers Place.
This marks Czata’s second gold medal with Hockey Canada after winning the U17 World Hockey Challenge last season with Canada White. Czata appeared in all five games for Canada at the Hlinka Gretzky Cup, as Canada went undefeated en route to their third consecutive gold medal.
The Canadians opened the tournament with a 10-0 win over the Swiss before downing Slovakia 5-1 to improve to 2-0. Their first big test would come in the final preliminary stage game against Sweden. The Canadians were able to edge the Swedes by a score of 2-1, setting up a semifinal date with their rivals, the USA. The Canadians would not disappoint, powering past the Americans in thumping fashion, 5-1. This set up a gold medal match with Czechia, who they had previously lost to in pre-tournament play. Eventually avenging the loss by closing out the tournament with a 2-1 win.
