The IceDogs were looking to rebound after a rough night in Kingston with a battle against the 67’s. However, it would be a quick start for the 67’s in this matinee contest, as Kimi Korbler scored just 2:57 into this one off of a nice feed from Sam Mayer. Despite the less than ideal start from Niagara, the captain, Gavin Bryant, would provide some life as he tapped home a beautiful set of passing on the powerplay. Ryan Roobroeck and Mathieu Paris would team up on the passing play as Paris found Bryant wide open at the side of the cage. This would start the back and forth as the 67’s would jump back into the lead through Henry Mews. Only for Gavin Bryant to respond with his second of the game to tie it, once again banging home the loose puck in front. The crazy opening period would continue just 22 seconds later as Evan Klein would wire one home to give the IceDogs the 3-2 lead heading into the second.
A new period but the same story for the Ottawa 67’s, as a quick strike just 2:13 into the frame evened the score up at 3-3. The IceDogs were looking to get back in the lead as Kevin He would find himself on a shorthanded breakaway only to be stopped by Michelone with the left pad. While still on the powerplay and only seconds later, the 67’s would find another goal to put them ahead 4-3. Kevin He would get another great look at goal, looking to tie things back up, as he made a nifty move around the defenceman and tried to shove it home. Michelone came up strong again, keeping it a one goal lead for the 67’s. Ottawa managed 20 shots in the period as they led heading into the third period.
For the third straight period Ottawa would score inside the first three minutes, with this one making it a two goal lead. However, the IceDogs showed no quit as they kept up the intensity and pressure. It would eventually payoff as Callum Cheynowski walked in from the blueline and sent a missile past Michelone to draw back to within one. This was Cheynowski’s first goal in a Niagara IceDogs uniform. Ottawa would continue on the hunt for another goal, forcing Robertson to make a few impressive saves down the stretch. Ultimately, they would find their sixth goal of the game to put the game out of reach from Niagara.
