The Soo Greyhounds are always looking for families in the Sault Ste. Marie, ON area who are interested in opening their homes and hearts to provide a home-away-from-home for our players during the season.
Our billeting program is second to none. These local families open up their homes, allowing our players to join their families. Our billets spend a great deal of time, energy, and commitment to ensure that our players are able to live comfortably and are fit to compete each night.
Since Hounds players range in age from 15-20, billet families act as surrogate parents for the young men during hockey season. Billeting can be a very exciting and rewarding experience, and a chance to make cherished memories. In fact, many families still keep in contact with their players as they move through the ranks of college and professional hockey or the business world.
The team strives to match each player’s personality and backgrounds with compatible billet homes. Furthermore, each potential billet is carefully screened and presented with our team’s expectations of the billet family.
All players are to remember that they are expected to follow and adhere to the general rules and guidelines set forth by the hockey club and the billeting program. Respect for the billet family and their household is a priority and should not be taken for granted.
To qualify as a billet, families are required to provide a player with their own room from the start of training camp through the end of the season, and provide the player with his meals along with other daily necessities.
In exchange, the families receive a stipend, season tickets and invitation to team events among other incentives.
In the event a billet family’s relationship with their player is not meeting the appropriate requirements or if the player is not the right fit, we will make our best attempt towards making the necessary changes to ensure everyone is happy and comfortable with their arrangements.
