Soo Greyhounds Announce Gerry Liscumb Jr. Named an ‘OHL Difference Maker’
The Soo Greyhounds are proud to announce that the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) has recognized Gerry Liscumb Jr. on its inaugural list of “OHL Difference Makers.” This prestigious award honours individuals whose off-ice contributions significantly enhance their organization’s performance.
Tim Lukenda, President and Governor of the Soo Greyhounds, expressed his pride in Gerry’s recognition, stating, “We are very proud that the OHL is recognizing something that we all know well, and that is the tremendous contribution that Gerry makes to the success of the Soo Greyhounds organization. Gerry is truly a jack-of-all-trades and willingly takes on many responsibilities on behalf of the team with a smile in his kind and humble manner.”
The OHL’s announcement emphasizes the importance of off-ice contributions to a team’s success: “Every great team is built on more than what happens on the ice. From preparation and professionalism to leadership and care for others, success starts long before puck drop. Each month, the Ontario Hockey League is proud to recognize individuals whose off-ice contributions help their organization perform at its very best.”
With 20 years of dedicated service, Gerry has grown from a young radio play-by-play announcer into an invaluable asset to the Greyhounds. His responsibilities are extensive and critical to their success, including all hockey administration and handling logistics during road trips, which often involve over 40 hotel nights throughout the regular season, as well as coordinating meals and ice time locally and on the road. In addition to managing these logistical challenges, Gerry is also the point person for billets, community engagement, and public relations. He is the go-to IT specialist, ensuring that technological needs are always met.
Lukenda further acknowledged Gerry, remarking, “His commitment, versatility, and passion for the team make him a worthy recipient of this honour. He embodies spirit and dedication, and his hard work significantly enhances our team’s success. Plus, he has never missed a game, home or away, for 20 years!”
The Soo Greyhounds congratulate Gerry Liscumb Jr. on this well-deserved recognition and thank him for his unwavering commitment to the team and the community
