Hounds’ shining while vying for International stage

The ice is yet to be placed inside the Essar Centre and player arrivals for Training Camp 2017 is still just under four weeks away.
But as the month of August was ushered in yesterday, it continued a busy stretch for members of the Greyhounds Program at a number of Under-17, Under-18 and World Junior showcase events.
Here-and-there on this Wednesday morning;
GETTINGER, TIMMINS, KATCHOUK WJHC HOPEFULS
Plymouth, Michigan and the USA Hockey Arena (formerly Compuware Arena) is currently hosting the 2017 World Junior Summer Showcase – a stepping stone for the upcoming World Junior Hockey Championship in Buffalo, New York.
And among the 32 OHLers present are Greyhounds’ TIM GETTINGER (USA), CONOR TIMMINS (CAN) and BORIS KATCHOUK (CAN).
The six team showcase (2 teams from Canada, 2 teams from USA, Finland, Sweden)
Fans can tune in to the action on TSN and NHL Network.

HAYTON TO IVAN HLINKA
It started with 44 hopefuls and now after a five-day Under-18 Team selection camp for Hockey Canada now twenty-one remain.
Greyhounds’ forward BARRETT HAYTON was named to the roster today.
Barrett will represent his home country at 2017 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Cup early this month (Aug. 7-12) in Breclav, Czech Republic and Bratislava, Slovakia.
There, Hayton will be joined by fellow Greyhounds DREW BANNISTER who serves as an Assistant Coach with the club.
At selection camp, Hayton produced 4 goals and 2 assists in 3 games played.
This will be the Peterborough, ON second straight year participating in Hockey Canada’s Program of Excellence after being a member of a U17 entry in the tournament held last season here in Sault Ste. Marie.

CARROLL LEADS U17 DEVELOPMENT CAMP
Last Friday 44 prospects concluded Canada’s National Under-17 Development Camp in Calgary.
And while Team Green grabbed top honours in the event, it was Greyhounds’ prospect JOE CARROLL (4th Round, 2017) who led all OHL prospects.
The Carp, ON product recorded 4 points (2g, 2a) in three games played including the game-winner in Team Blue’s finale on Friday.
Other Greyhounds’ prospects who participated in the event included; HAYDEN FOWLER (1st Round, 2017) 2g, 1a with Team Black, ROBERT CALISTI (3rd Rd, 2017) 1g with Team Blue and ALEX JOHNSTON (6th Rd, 2017) with Team Black.

The showcase event, along with the OHL Gold Cup, help in evaluation before sixty-six players will later be selected to represent Canada (Team Canada Black, Team Canada Red, Team Canada White) at the 2017 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge in Dawson Creek and Fort St. John, B.C.
