OHL 20 in 20 Futures Watch: Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds
The Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds captured their third West Division title in four seasons large in part to consistent success in the OHL Priority Selection.
Many of the last decade’s top OHL Draft picks by the Hounds have also developed into top NHL Draft picks notably first rounders Darnell Nurse, Jared McCann, Zach Senyshyn, and Morgan Frost almost annually since 2013.
The next wave begins with the introduction of the club’s top three 2017 prospects who have each committed to the Soo.
First round pick Hayden Fowler chosen 19th overall from the Greater Kingston Frontenacs will bring offence and speed to the lineup next season. Production from the blue line will be generated by third round pick Robert Calisti of the Toronto Nationals, while fourth round pick Joe Carrroll of the Carleton Place Canadians brings an element of physicality to his game.
All three enjoyed success at the OHL Gold Cup in May with Calisti among leaders in scoring for defencemen, Fowler earning silver with Team OMHA Black, and Carroll winning bronze with Team HEO.
Fowler, Calisti, Carroll and sixth round centre Alex Johnston will represent the Greyhounds at Hockey Canada’s National Men’s Summer Under-17 Selection Camp in Calgary on July 22nd.
