[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””]Oshawa, ON., –\u00a0<\/strong> The Oshawa Generals have selected Kane Cloutier of the Vaughan Kings U16 AAA with the first pick in the OHL Priority Selection Draft.<\/p>\n

Cloutier played 33 games last season, collecting 58 points, 32 of which were goals. The newest first overall pick is no stranger to winning, having helped his team to a GTHL Championship this past year.<\/p>\n

“We are excited to have a player of Kane’s talents joining our organization,” said Oshawa’s General Manager Roger Hunt. “It’s quite a torch-handing-off moment having John Tavares, the last player that was selected number one by the Gens, make the selection of Kane Cloutier.”<\/p>\n

Oshawa is no stranger to the effect that John Tavares was able to bring to the community.<\/p>\n

“We know the impact John had and continues to have in Oshawa, and Kane can be as influential a figure here on and off the ice,” added Hunt.<\/p>\n

GensNation expects a lot from a first overall pick, and Kane has the skill and drive to exceed those expectations.<\/p>\n

“Kane brings a high level of talent, speed, work ethic and commitment to the Generals,” remarked the Gens GM. “We went through some strong seasons as a team and harvested some great talents in recent years. Kane will be a player much the same. He will grow as a player and person while being an exciting player to watch.”<\/p>\n

Cloutier is well aware of what it takes to make it not only in the OHL but also in the NHL. His father, Dan Cloutier, spent 10 seasons playing goalie in the NHL.<\/p>\n

“Kane comes from hockey Bloodlines with his Dad, Dan, playing in both the OHL and NHL and seeing the commitment it takes to play at those levels,” said Hunt. “Having someone under the same roof as you to be able to help you and guide you in your dad will be a great asset for Kane as he sets out on his hockey journey.”<\/p>\n

Oshawa should be ready for some fun times down at the Tribute Communities Centre.<\/p>\n

“Cloutier brings us the ability to bring fans out of their seats with his skill,” added Hunt. “He will score goals for us and be a dynamic offensive player. I know GensNation will be excited to see Kane on the ice as early as next week at orientation camp.”<\/p>\n

In return, Oshawa is receiving forward Mark Pape, goalie Cruz Reznik, along with a Guelph 2nd-round pick in 2027, a Sudbury 2nd-round pick in 2028, a Niagara 3rd-round pick in 2027 and a Guelph 4th- round pick in 2028.<\/p>\n

Griffin spent three seasons with the Generals, playing in 189 regular-season games, collecting 124 points, including 48 goals. In the playoffs, Griffin made back-to-back trips to the OHL Championship Series, winning two Bobby Orr Trophies along the way. The Generals’ former first-round pick played in 42 playoff games with the Gens, picking up 34 points, 17 being goals.<\/p>\n

” Owen came in as a first-rounder and certainly didn’t disappoint. I think he took his first season to acclimate to the league; it is incredible how long it took a player of his calibre to score his first goal,” said Roger Hunt. ” He had incredible growth as a player in his second year to help us get to an OHL Championship appearance for a second time. Leading the way in a scoring column filled with highly touted NHL prospects.”<\/p>\n

“For Owen to play out his junior career with a chance to play for a Memorial Cup would be a fairytale finish to his OHL career,” added Hunt.<\/p>\n

Griffin has spent his entire junior career playing for the Gens after he was selected 6th overall.<\/p>\n

“Thank you, GensNation,” said Griffin. “I will forever be thankful for the three years I spent in Oshawa to begin my junior career. The Oshawa Generals are a first-class organization, and I am grateful for the opportunity they gave me. To the Ling’s (my billet family), my teammates, coaches, staff, management and the amazing fans, thank you for the lifelong memories.”<\/p>\n

Coming back in the deal are Mark Pape, a forward who just wrapped up his first season in the OHL after being selected 25th overall in the 2025 OHL Priority Selection Draft. In his rookie season. Pape played 46 games, notching 7 points. Including three goals. [vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””]Oshawa, ON., – <\/strong>Last night the Oshawa Generals completed their U-18 OHL Draft, selecting two players, including 1st<\/sup> overall pick Ethan Cava.<\/p>\n

The Generals followed up the first pick by taking Nikolay Andreychenkov with their 2nd<\/sup>-round pick.<\/p>\n

Cava is from Thunder Bay and spent last season playing for the Seventh Fire Secondary School Eagles, where he collected 40 points in 42 games, scoring 14 goals.<\/p>\n

\u201cEthan is a 6\u20194 centre from Thunder Bay. His size, reach, and hockey IQ make him the type of player to contribute in many ways,\u201d said Generals GM Roger Hunt. \u201cHe is responsible off the puck in all three zones with upside to play in all situations.\u201d<\/p>\n

Andreychenkov spent last season with the Mississauga Reps U18 AAA playing in 31 games and collecting 19 points, 15 of which were goals.<\/p>\n

\u201cNikolay is a big strong winger,\u201d said Hunt. \u201cHe is an excellent skater and plays the game with passion and intensity.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Generals now shift their focus to the OHL Priority Selection Draft where they hold the 1st<\/sup> overall pick. Tune in Friday night to see who Oshawa will take.<\/p>\n

Tonight\u2019s draft consists of two or three rounds depending on whether or not the teams decide to take a goalie with one of their first two picks.<\/p>\n

Just like in the OHL Priority Selection Draft, the Oshawa Generals hold the first overall pick. Last year, the Generals selected Lewis Hergaarden, who spent this past season in the OJHL with the Haliburton County Huskies.<\/p>\n

The draft kicks off at 7 PM tonight; follow along on our Generals social media.<\/p>\n
