Luca Marrelli selected 86th overall by the Columbus Blue Jackets at NHL Entry Draft
Oshawa, Ont. – Luca Marrelli has been selected in the 3rd Round, 86th overall by the Columbus Blue Jackets, in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft at the Sphere in Las Vegas.
Marrelli was selected 81st overall by the Generals in the 2021 OHL Priority Selection Draft and completed his first season with 62 games played and 12 points. His second season is where Marrelli found his groove, with 28 points in 58 games. He then spent this past season playing 67 games and a total of 57 points, coming second in team-leading assists with 51.
Often paired with Ben Danford on the backend, Marrelli is known to be an offensive defenceman for the Generals. Snappy and smart with his passes, vision, and positioning, Marrelli ensures his teammates can grab solid opportunities when he is on the ice.
Constantly setting up linemates and being there to cover for support, the 6’2 Toronto native reads plays perfectly and always finds an open spot in the offensive zone, both on the man advantage and during 5v5 hockey.
Marrelli does not give any time, space, or opportunity for his opponents to make decisions when on a rush. He uses his speed, control, and poise to capitalize on his long reach and body positioning to push competitors away from the net.
