Generals take 6-5 victory at Sleeman Centre
Guelph, ON – The Oshawa Generals faced off against the Storm at the Sleeman Centre this evening in their second preseason game, securing a 6-5 victory. Key performances included Matthew Buckley, who scored twice, and Isaac Gravelle, who made crucial saves to maintain the lead during the game’s most intense moments.
In the first period, Cam Allen from the Storm ignited the scoreboard with a sharp snapshot over Gravelle, giving his team a 1-0 lead just four minutes into the game.
Buckley responded midway through the first period with a precise shot through the five-hole after a quick faceoff play in Guelph’s end, levelling the game at 1-1.
Shortly thereafter, Owen Griffin capitalized on a turnover in the neutral zone, streaking down the ice and scoring glove-side against Storm’s Brayden Gillespie to give the Generals a 2-1 advantage, marking his second of the preseason.
Alex McLean then sparked a play by maneuvering through open ice, and his shot off Gravelle’s right pad rebounded directly to Jimmy Sutherland, who promptly snapped it home to tie the game at 2-2.
The Storm regained the lead with a well-executed passing sequence in the offensive zone from Rowan Topp to Jett Luchanko, culminating in Jake Karabela’s goal for a 3-2 score.
Guelph’s Rylan Singh extended the lead midway through the second period, but Jonathon Pylypuik quickly responded, cutting the deficit to 4-3 just a minute later.
Buckley then delivered a crucial goal with a powerful shot from his favourite spot after a perfect pass from Luca D’Amato during a man advantage, once again, levelling the score.
D’Amato then put the Generals ahead with a slick backhand finish on a breakaway, giving his team a 5-4 lead as the second period came to a close.
In the final period, Harrison Franssen added to the Generals’ tally with his first preseason goal, finishing cleanly after being left unchallenged by Guelph’s Gillespie.
Generals’ Gravelle sealed the victory with a stunning double save on a Guelph breakaway as the clock wound down, securing a 6-5 win for the Generals.
