2024 Day 1 Draft Recap presented by Real Canadian Superstore
Oshawa, Ont., – Tonight marked the moment the Oshawa Generals looked ahead to the 2024/2025 season. After Rounds 1-3, the Generals welcomed three new members to GensNation.
Brady Smith
The Oshawa Generals opened the 2024 OHL Priority Selection with the 17th overall selection, where they selected Brady Smith, from the North York Rangers. In 33 games with the Rangers, Smith totalled 32 goals, 27 assists, and 59 points. Scouts note that Smith is one of the purest goal scorers in this year’s Priority Selection and has a shot that is second to none, he is extremely accurate with it and his release is at another level as he catches a lot of goalies off guard. He is a good skater and when he decides to turn it on, he has the ability to beat defenders wide and win races for loose pucks. He can find open ice in the offensive zone and is dangerous whenever he has the puck on his stick in the scoring areas. His scoring abilities make him a very intriguing prospect as he will have no trouble scoring at the next level.
Brooks Rogowski
In the Second Round, the Oshawa Generals selected the first US pick of 2024, Brooks Rogowski from Detroit Catholic Central. With 25 games played, Rogowski earned 19 goals and 24 assists for a total of 43 points overall. Scouts indicate that Rogowski is a big, physical force and an intimidating body on the ice. A tough centreman to play against, Rogowski will enter Oshawa with a solid foundation, being in a US hockey school system, where they attend and develop to become future stars on the ice.
Brady Blaseg
47th overall, the Oshawa Generals made their final pick of the evening in Round 3 when they chose Brady Blaseg from the Ottawa Myers Auto. A 6’2 offensive defenceman, Blaseg wore a ‘C’ for his team and is a guy who plays the game the right way, has a long reach and owns a physical style of play. Plays the puck well and owns the ice with his presence, Blaseg has a great vision for countless opportunities for himself and his teammates, making a great addition to the Oshawa Generals Hockey Club.
