2023-2024 Training Camp: Day Three Recap
Oshawa, Ont., – 10:00-12:00 Scrimmage #4
The high-scoring affairs at the 2023-2024 Oshawa Generals Training Camp continued on Wednesday morning. Team Andreychuk scored their third victory of the week by a score of 7-6 over Team Lindros.
Both Noah Bender for Team Andreychuk and Isaac Gravelle for Team Lindros played the full 60 minutes for this morning’s scrimmage. Both are the first goaltenders this week to play an entire scrimmage.
It wasn’t a dream start however for Bender, as he allowed three goals on the first five shots he faced. The trio of Lindros forwards Roobroeck, Zhou, and Toms all scored in quick succession.
Bender did however settle in for the rest of the period.
Across the ice, Team Andreychuk’s scoring got started when Beckett Sennecke made a slick drop pass onto the stick of Ben Kozyra. The 2023 14th-round selection made no mistake and beat Gravelle cleanly. Shortly after, Shawn Costello brought his team within one.
After 20 minutes, Team Lindros lead 3-2, while the shots were even at 11 a side.
The middle frame is where both teams came alive – scoring a combined eight goals. It was first Team Lindros taking advantage of the goal-scoring, getting markers from Zijian-Jason Zhou and Ethan Toms.
Down 5-2, Team Andreychuk knew it was time to storm back. They score four unanswered goals – from Luca Rodriguez, Kozyra, Beckett Sennecke and Caeden Heins. Team Andreychuk couldn’t hold the lead for long before returning defenceman Luca D’Amato socred to tie the game for Team Lindros.
In the final few minutes of the second period, Sennecke grabbed a loose puck low on the goal line and ripped it over the shoulder of Gravelle to take the lead back, 7-6.
After 40 minutes, Team Andreychuk led 7-6 but trailed on the shot clock 30-20.
There was no scoring in the third period, but both goalies stood tall when tested. Team Lindros threw another 10 shots on net but couldn’t solve Bender.
Team Andreychuk would hold on to win their 3rd scrimmage of the week 7-6, while Team Lindros had the shot advantage 42-27.
3:45-5:45 Scrimmage #5
The final scrimmage of day three featured what looked like a goaltender duel turned into a 6-1 win for Team Andreychuk.
In the opening 20 minutes, the only scoring came off the stick of recent first-round selection Owen Griffin. Despite the 16 shots Team Lindros fired at Hayden Sabourin, the netminder turned them all aside.
The middle period saw no goals despite further offensive pushes from both sides. After 40 minutes the shots were 28-23 for Team Andreychuk. Sabourin still remained perfect stopping all 28.
The final period of Day Three is where things exploded for Team Andreychuk. Early in the third period, Beckett Sennecke snapped the shutout bid tying the game at 1-1.
A few minutes later it all fell apart for Team Lindros. In less than two minutes, Team Andreychuk put four more goals through Sabourin. Each of Costello, Tarasevich, Heins, and Sennecke, made it a 5-1 lead.
With just 1:36 to go, Tristan Delisle sealed it with an empty net goal.
A 6-1 finish the way of Team Andreychuk saw the final shot count at 41-28.
