2023-2024 Training Camp: Day Four Recap
Oshawa, Ont., – The 2023-2024 Oshawa Generals’ Training Camp officially came to a close this afternoon following a 7-4 victory for Team Andreychuk.
After a week of scrimmages, both teams continued to find the offense and continue the high-scoring patterns.
The scoring was opened by Team Andreychuk’s Nikita Tarasevich. He rifled home a bomb of a slapshot at the top of the face-off dot, beating Carter Bickle.
Shortly after, the arrival of 1st round import selection Rasmus Kumpulainen was made loud and clear. One just his second shift of the day – and first scrimmage appearance of the entire week, Kumpulainen laid out a big hit, grabbed the puck, and cleanly sniped it past Bickle for a 2-0 lead.
Team Lindros lead in shots 12-9 but trailed 2-0 where it counted after 20 minutes.
The second period saw Team Andreychuk extend their lead with slight offensive pushback from Team Lindros.
First, Luke Torrance gave Team Andreychuk a 3-1 lead thanks to a perfect pass from Kumpulainen. After Ryan Hodkinson got Team Lindros back within one, Thomas Stewart and Beckett Sennecke scored twice in 40 seconds to give Team Andreychuk a 5-2 lead.
The final frame got off to a hot start for Team Lindros goaltender Isaac Gravelle. Less than a minute into the period, a defensive miscue gave Team Andreychuk a prime scoring opportunity on a breakaway – but they were stopped by Gravelle on a diving paddle save on the goal line.
Scoring continued later in the period by both teams. Team Andreychuk saw the second goal of the day from Tarasevich and Kumpulainen. Lindros responded with two goals of their own, one each from Dylan Roobroeck and Owen Griffin.
Team Andreychuk would hold on for a 7-4 victory, despite being outshout 42-32 by Team Lindros.
Next action for the Generals is this weekend when the team travels to Kitchener and Port Hope for a pair of exhibition games against the Kitchener Rangers and defending OHL champion Peterborough Petes.
Oshawa’s next home action takes place on Sunday, September 10th for the one and only home exhibition game of the 2023 Pre-Season schedule. Tickets are available now and can be purchased by clicking here.
