Kingston, ON – <\/strong>The Kingston Frontenacs added another promising group of young players to the organization during the 2026 OHL Priority Selection, continuing to build for the future while hosting one of the most historic draft weekends in league history.<\/span><\/p>\n

Held on home turf inside of Slush Puppie Place, the 2026 OHL Priority Selection marked the Ontario Hockey League’s first in-person draft since 2000, with Kingston serving as host for the league-wide event. Prospects, families, team personnel, and fans gathered throughout the weekend to celebrate the next generation of OHL talent.<\/span><\/p>\n

Leading the way for the Frontenacs was first round selection Logan Prud’homme, chosen 10th overall on Friday evening. The highly-skilled forward joins the organization after a standout season with Upper Canada College; bringing a combination of size, offensive ability, and long-term potential to Kingston’s prospect pool.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt’s rare you get a player with his combination of size, skill, and athleticism,\u201d <\/span><\/strong><\/em>said <\/span><\/strong>Kingston Head Scout Aaron Van Leusen. <\/span><\/strong>\u201cHe scored some big goals in big moments this year and we believe he has a very high ceiling. He’s a player that has a lot of maturity and is a leader both on and off the ice. He doesn’t rest on his talent and puts the work in to continually improve his game.\u201d<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Over the course of the draft, the Frontenacs focused on adding talent across all positions, selecting players who fit the organization’s commitment to skill, character, competitiveness, and hockey sense. The draft class features a diverse mix of forwards, defencemen, and a goaltender who will look to develop within the organization over the coming years.<\/span><\/p>\n

Brantford 99ers forward Roman Vanacker came in at pick 23, the first name on the board for the Frontenacs to kick off day two of the festivities. The brother of Brantford Bulldogs forward and Chicago Blackhawks first round pick Marek Vanacker is lauded for his goal scoring prowess and tenacious skating.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cHe was the captain of his team in Brantford and dragged them into the fight each game with his compete,\u201d <\/span><\/strong><\/em>said Van Leusen.<\/span><\/strong> \u201cHis play away from the puck creates a lot of turnovers and transition opportunities. Inside the blueline he’s an equally strong playmaker and goal scorer.\u201d<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The Delhi, ON native isn’t just impressive on the ice. During the pre-draft interview process, General Manager Kory Cooper was blown away with his character and leadership.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWhen we asked his coaches and support staff about his character we were blown away by the answers we received,\u201d <\/span><\/strong><\/em>said Cooper.<\/span><\/strong> \u201cEveryone we spoke to said Roman is of very high character and takes care of his teammates both on and off the ice. He wore the C for a reason with the 99ers and is quite an impressive player.”<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Later in the second round the Frontenacs took towering defenceman Shane Roche from the Toronto Marlboros. Standing at 6’3”, Roche can bring a little bit of everything from the blueline.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cHe is a tall left shot defender that is rangy as he has good feet and transitions well for his size,\u201d <\/span><\/strong><\/em>said Van Leusen.<\/span><\/strong> \u201cHe was very consistent with his first pass and getting the puck moving north. Inside the offensive zone, he showed great poise and an ability to get his shot on net or hit an open teammate through a seam.\u201d<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Rounding out the first three rounds, the Frontenacs selected mobile defenceman Gavin Godick from the Don Mills Flyers; rounding out their first three rounds with two forwards and two defencemen.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cGavin is a right shot defenceman that has a good touch for the puck,\u201d <\/span><\/strong><\/em>said Van Leusen.<\/span><\/strong> \u201cHe moves well laterally in the offensive zone and can open up a lot of shooting and passing lanes. Most importantly he can defend hard and is tough to beat 1 on 1.\u201d<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The 2026 draft class joins a young and exciting core already in place in Kingston, providing further optimism for the future of the franchise. As these prospects begin their journey with the Frontenacs, fans can look forward to watching the newest members of the organization develop and work toward wearing the black and gold at the OHL level. <\/span><\/p>\n

With another successful draft weekend complete, the Frontenacs have taken an important step toward strengthening the organization’s future while helping deliver a memorable and historic event for the Ontario Hockey League.<\/span><\/p>\n

Toronto, ON<\/strong> \u2013 The Kingston Frontenacs are proud to recognize goaltender Gavin Betts has been named the recipient of the Dayna Brons Honorary Award, presented by Hockey Gives Blood and Canadian Blood Services.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Dayna Brons Honorary Award recognizes an individual within Canada’s hockey community who demonstrates exceptional dedication to supporting patients who rely on blood and stem cell products while raising awareness of the importance of Canada’s Lifeline. The award is presented to those who embody the compassion, humility, and selflessness that Dayna Brons was known for throughout her life.<\/span><\/p>\n

Throughout his time as a Hockey Gives Blood Player Ambassador, Betts has used his platform to advocate for blood, stem cell, organ and tissue donation while inspiring teammates, fans, and members of the community to make a difference. His commitment to giving back and helping others has made a meaningful impact both on and off the ice.<\/span><\/p>\n

“We are incredibly proud of Gavin for receiving this prestigious honour,” <\/span><\/strong><\/em>said Frontenacs General Manager Kory Cooper. <\/span><\/strong>“Gavin’s character, leadership, and commitment to helping others exemplify what it means to be a member of the Kingston Frontenacs. He has embraced the opportunity to make a positive impact in our community and across the country, and this recognition is incredibly well deserved.”<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

Betts joins a distinguished group of recipients who have been recognized nationally for their efforts to support Canadian Blood Services and Hockey Gives Blood initiatives. Through his dedication and advocacy, he has helped shine a spotlight on the ongoing need for blood and stem cell donors across Canada. Betts is now the second member of the Kingston Frontenacs to win the Dayna Brons Honorary Award, following Braden Hache in 2021.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Kingston Frontenacs congratulate Gavin on this outstanding achievement and thank him for the positive influence he continues to have within the hockey community.<\/span><\/p>\n

For a first year defenceman in the Ontario Hockey League, Matthew Henderson handled the challenges of his rookie season with poise and maturity beyond his years.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Kingston Frontenacs’ 2025 second first round selection quickly established himself as a reliable presence on the blue line, appearing in 63 regular season games and recording 18 points (2 goals, 16 assists). Henderson’s smooth skating ability, strong puck movement, and dependable defensive play allowed him to earn valuable minutes as the season went on as he continued to develop against some of the league’s top competition. <\/span><\/p>\n

“Hendo” was paired up with overage defenceman Will Bishop and the pair built chemistry and was solid on the ice, providing Henderson with invaluable experience from a Memorial Cup winning partner in Bishop.<\/span><\/p>\n

As the season progressed, Henderson’s confidence grew, and so did his role within the lineup. The Sarnia native showcased the two-way game that made him a first-round pick, contributing offensively while maintaining a steady presence in his own zone. Henderson also received time later in the season on the team’s second power play unit, showing the trust that Troy Mann and his coaching staff has in him. His development culminated in the playoffs, where he continued to play significant minutes and demonstrated the composure expected of a veteran player.<\/span><\/p>\n

With a full OHL season under his belt and valuable playoff experience gained, Henderson has laid a strong foundation for what looks to be a promising future in Kingston. As the Frontenacs continue to build around their young core, the talented blueliner is poised to be an important part of the team’s success for years to come.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"

Kingston, ON <\/strong>– The Kingston Frontenacs are excited to announce their matchup in the upcoming OHL\/QMJHL Crossover Series, featuring a home-and-home set against the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada of the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL).<\/span><\/p>\n

The series will mark the first-ever meetings between the Frontenacs and Armada, giving fans a unique opportunity to see two clubs from different CHL member leagues square off on the ice.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Frontenacs will host the Armada at Slush Puppie Place on Sunday, November 22nd at 2:05 p.m. before making the trip to Quebec for the return matchup on Sunday, January 17th at 3:00 p.m. in Blainville-Boisbriand.<\/span><\/p>\n

The OHL\/QMJHL Crossover continues to provide exciting interleague competition and a chance for players, coaches, and fans to experience new opponents and environments. For Kingston, the matchup presents an opportunity to test themselves against one of the QMJHL\u2019s established franchises while adding a new chapter to the club\u2019s history.<\/span><\/p>\n
