Kingston, ON \u2013\u00a0<\/strong>General Manager Kory Cooper has acquired 2009 born defenceman Gavin Christie from the Brantford Bulldogs in exchange for a pair of future OHL draft picks.<\/span><\/p>\n

Christie spent last season split between the Brantford Bulldogs and the Brantford Titans (GOJHL). The Beamsville, ON native appeared in 9 regular season games for the Bulldogs, spending a majority of his playing time with the Titans. In 38 games, Christie recorded 7 goals and 20 assists to go along with 107 penalty minutes as he added some toughness from the backend. Christie also appeared in 4 playoff games with the Titans, adding a pair of goals.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

“Adding Gavin to our defensive core for next season is something we’re pretty excited about.”<\/em> said Frontenacs General Manager Kory Cooper.\u00a0“He adds size, a physical presence and has offensive upside that we’re looking forward to having in our lineup. Originally selected by the Brantford Bulldogs in the third round, 58th overall in the 2025 OHL Priority Selection, Christie was a product of the Niagara North Stars U16 AAA program where he had 24 points in 31 games and an additional 2 points in 4 OHL Cup games.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

When the Kingston Frontenacs signed Robin Kuzma as a free agent ahead of the 2025-26 season, they believed the Illinois native could make an immediate impact. By season’s end, the rookie forward had done exactly that.<\/span><\/p>\n

Kuzma transitioned seamlessly to the OHL, providing energy, skill, and offensive production throughout his first campaign in black and gold. Kuzma quickly established himself as a reliable contributor, earning OHL Rookie of the Week honours in December following a five-point week.<\/span><\/p>\n

As the season progressed, Kuzma’s confidence continued to grow. He became an important part of Kingston’s young core, delivering timely goals and strong two-way play. Highlights included a two-goal performance against North Bay in February and several key contributions down the stretch as the Frontenacs pushed toward the playoffs.<\/span><\/p>\n

Kuzma was put together with Aleks Kulemin and Nolan Snyder following the trade deadline to form ‘The Kid Line’ and quickly earned the trust of the coaching staff. ‘The Kid Line’ was relied on heavily down the stretch and into the playoffs as they showed they could hang with the opposition’s top units.<\/span><\/p>\n

With his hockey IQ, competitiveness, and ability to produce offensively, Kuzma showed why the Frontenacs were eager to bring him to Kingston. His rookie season provided a glimpse of an exciting future, and he will be a player to watch as the Fronts continue to build toward success in the years ahead.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"

An article every Kingston Frontenacs fan will love, with 11 days left until the 2026 OHL Priority Selection at Slush Puppie Place, we look back at the legendary career of Maleek McGowan.<\/span><\/p>\n

A lifetime member of the Frontenacs, McGowan was selected in the 10th round of the 2021 OHL Priority Selection after playing his minor hockey with the Markham Major AAA program. Relatively unknown at the time, McGowan would spend the majority of his 16-year-old season with the Oshawa Generals U18 AAA team, suiting up for the Cobourg Cougars twice in 2021-22 as well.<\/span><\/p>\n

As the season wound down, McGowan would join the Frontenacs in his first season of junior eligibility, making his OHL debut on April 16, 2022, against the Ottawa 67\u2019s, then joining the team on the road in Peterborough the next night.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

As the 2022-23 season rolled around, McGowan would make the Frontenacs out of camp but would suffer a scary injury in December of 2022. In a game against the North Bay Battalion, McGowan would go to make a hit, which led to the opponent’s skate coming up and cutting his left wrist. The bleeding was prominent as the cut was inches away from an artery and the game was stopped as a hush came over the arena.\u00a0 McGowan would be transported to a hospital immediately, where he would undergo successful surgery on two tendons in the wrist. The 17-year-old defenceman would return to the ice on February 10th, 2023 against the Oshawa Generals.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Now an 18-year-old in 2023-24, the fans fell in love and start to win the hearts of the Frontenacs fans over almost instantly with his hardnosed and physical style of play. At least once a game, he would send an opponent flying to the ice with an arena shaking hit. Adding to his threatening play, McGowan would start to add a little offence to his game as well, recording 17 points.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

With every season with the Frontenacs, McGowan became an even greater force. Entering the 2024-25 season, there was no doubt who the fan favourite of the team was. Now, to go with his speed and physical style of play, McGowan had the size to bully the majority of those who dared to enter a corner with the Frontenacs defender. Taking his points total from 17 in the prior season to 30 in just 56 games, a 19-year-old, he did not just provide reliable defence but highlight reel offence, with seemingly all seven of his goals good enough to earn himself the ‘Highlight of the Night’ honours on Sportscentre.<\/span><\/p>\n

McGowan can be given the credit for a lot of the Frontenacs playoff success in 2025. He set the tone physically in a series against the Sudbury Wolves, in which the Frontenacs won in four games. McGowan would, unfortunately, be on the receiving end of a bad hit in game one a of the second round series against the Barrie Colts, which forced him to miss the remainder of the season, but before that had scored to give the Frontenacs an early edge against the Colts.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Taking his talents on an international stage, McGowan would represent Team Jamaica at the Challenger Series, scoring three times in two games. Jamaica would go on to beat Lebanon 12-8 in the final game of the series.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Finally, this past season as an overager. McGowan was given his biggest role yet with the team, being named an alternate captain at the start of the season. With a newly pressed \u2018A\u2019 on his jersey, McGowan would have his most productive season yet, scoring 14 more highlight reel goals and finishing with 36 points. Seeing large minutes all season, leading the power-play for the majority of the season, all while continuing to provide that physical force, Maleek was a true leader on a young Frontenacs team. Number 11 was given a well-deserved standing ovation when the team celebrated their OA\u2019s on March 20th and will always be a forever Frontenac.<\/span><\/p>\n

McGowan was never one for interviews during his time with the Frontenacs, but he did sit down with the media team as his final season was winding down.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI couldn\u2019t have done it without the fans,\u201d <\/span><\/strong><\/em>said McGowan.<\/span><\/strong> \u201cThey are very supportive, very helpful, same with the staff and Manner, (Troy Mann) I wouldn\u2019t be the player I am today without him.\u201d<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Maleek would sign an Amateur Tryout with the Wilkes-Barre Scranton Penguins at the end of the Frontenacs season, before he starts an Entry Level Contract for 2026-27 with the Penguins.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

After entering the season with plenty of expectations, Gavin Betts quickly proved he was ready for the spotlight. The 17-year-old netminder emerged as one of the club\u2019s biggest bright spots during the 2025-26 campaign, establishing himself as a key piece of the organization\u2019s future.<\/span><\/p>\n

Betts stepped into a much larger role this season following significant changes to Kingston\u2019s crease with veteran netminders Charlie Schenkel and Mason Vaccari leaving the organization and he never looked out of place. Calm under pressure and confident in the crease, the Toronto native delivered several standout performances throughout the year, including his first OHL shutout and multiple Goalie of the Week honours at the league level.<\/span><\/p>\n

The former second-round OHL Priority Selection pick showcased his athleticism and poise night after night, helping keep the Frontenacs competitive during a season focused heavily on youth development. Betts finished the year with 21 wins and a team-best 2.81 GAA among Kingston goaltenders, continuing to build momentum as one of the top young goaltenders in the league.<\/span><\/p>\n

His emergence was about more than statistics. Betts consistently gave the Frontenacs a chance to win, earning praise for his maturity and composure despite his age. Whether it was shutting the door in tight games or standing tall during high-pressure moments, he showed the qualities of a future franchise goaltender.<\/span><\/p>\n

As the Frontenacs continue building toward the future, Gavin Betts has made one thing clear; the crease in Kingston is in very good hands.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"

With just 17 days left until the 2026 OHL priority selection kicks off at Slush Puppie place, we turn our attention to the 17th overall pick in the 2025 OHL draft, Matthew Henderson, who stepped in and became a difference maker right away for the Frontenacs.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

With the second of his two first-round picks, Kory Cooper and his staff selected Matthew Henderson from the Huron-Perth Lakers U16 AAA program. A smooth-skating left-handed defenceman who recorded 26 points in 30 games in his final season of minor hockey.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

From the start of development camp following the draft, there was no doubt Henderson would not only fit well into Coach Troy Mann\u2019s system but also become a star very quickly in the OHL.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Henderson played 63 games with the Frontenacs in his rookie season, recording 18 points, including the first two goals of his junior hockey career. After moving up and down the lineup for the first handful of regular-season games, Henderson found a home playing with overage defenceman and Memorial Cup Champion in Will Bishop.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe experience is a big thing,\u201d <\/span><\/strong><\/em>said Henderson in an Interview with the Frontenacs. <\/span><\/strong>\u201cThat\u2019s the goal for everyone, so having him teach us about that journey? It\u2019s special.\u201d<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The savvy veteran, paired with an up-and-coming star, not only worked well for Henderson and Bishop, but the Frontenacs staff loved what they were seeing too.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cBish being able to guide Hendo along the way here as he gets started in his OHL career is really going to benefit him as he moves forward,\u201d <\/span><\/strong><\/em>said General Manager Kory Cooper in a mid-season conversation.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Along with his teammate Aleks Kulemin, Henderson had the honour of representing Team Canada White at the U17 World Championships in Truro, Nova Scotia. Again, Henderson made waves, recording six points in five games on his way to a silver medal wearing the maple leaf.<\/span><\/p>\n

When Henderson returned from the U17s, he was given a bigger role on the Frontenacs, being added to the second power-play unit and seeing the ice in more high-pressure situations as Kingston made their playoff push. All accumulating to Henderson being relied on heavily in the Frontenacs first round series against the Ottawa 67\u2019s this past April.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a big boost of confidence,\u201d <\/span><\/strong><\/em>said Henderson. <\/span><\/strong>\u201cPlaying against the top lines in the OHL as a 16-year-old does a lot for your self-confidence.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Henderson will come into camp next fall as one of the Frontenacs’ most promising defencemen and once again will be relied on heavily for his ability to break out the puck efficiently and create offence at the other end.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

After arriving in Kingston midway through the 2025-26 campaign, Slovakian forward Alex Misiak quickly became an important piece of the young and evolving Kingston Frontenacs lineup. Acquired from the Erie Otters in January, Misiak brought a combination of skill, physicality, and international experience that helped strengthen the Frontenacs down the stretch.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The 18-year-old forward adapted quickly after the move, providing offensive production and versatility in a variety of situations. Misiak finished among Kingston\u2019s team leaders in assists and power play scoring, while also bringing a competitive edge every night. His ability to play with pace and create opportunities around the offensive zone helped him fit seamlessly into the Frontenacs\u2019 forward group.<\/span><\/p>\n

His playoff experience, combined with his appearance for Slovakia at the 2026 IIHF World Junior Championship earlier in the season, added valuable maturity to Kingston\u2019s young roster.<\/span><\/p>\n

Still eligible to return next season, Misiak\u2019s strong finish with the Frontenacs provided an exciting glimpse of what\u2019s ahead. With just a few weeks left until the 2026 OHL Priority Selection, Andr\u00e9 Mondoux is an example of how it\u2019s not just the first round picks that become stars in the league.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The product of Sturgeon Falls, Ontario, was relatively unknown heading into his draft year, playing for the North Bay Trappers program before joining the Toronto Titans in his U16 season. Despite a lack of production as a stay-at-home defenseman, Mondoux caught the eyes of the Frontenacs scouting staff with his size and skating ability. 204 names were called before the Frontenacs selected Andr\u00e9 Mondoux in the 11th round of the 2023 OHL Priority Selection.<\/span><\/p>\n

Mondoux spent the majority of his first two junior hockey seasons with the Pickering Panthers in the Ontario Junior Hockey League (OJHL). Suiting up in 103 games for the Panthers, Mondoux would record nine goals and 27 points in his time, all while continuing to sharpen his defensive skills. Mondoux made his Frontenacs debut on December 20, 2024 and suited up seven more times during the 2024-25 campaign.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

After impressing in limited action with the Frontenacs, Mondoux was invited to the Philadelphia Flyers Rookie camp in September, where he gained valuable experience that he brought back to Kingston for his first full season.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Starting the season as an 18-year old, Mondoux was heavily relied on throughout his first season by Head Coach Troy Mann. Playing in 66 regular season games and all four playoff games. Mondoux not only saw a heavy workload five-on-five, but was also used frequently on the penalty kill throughout the year. The defencemen also showed flashes of offence, dangling his way through opposing teams multiple times, and scoring six times, two of which were game-winning goals.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cJust being able to gain the coach’s trust was a big thing for me,\u201d <\/span><\/strong><\/em>said Mondoux in his exit interview this season.<\/span><\/strong> \u201c My goal was to be a top-six guy, I ended up being a guy they trusted on the penalty kill and in big minutes.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The 2026-27 season shapes up to be a big one for Frontenacs defencemen. Mondoux has the attention of NHL scouts and is hopeful to hear his name called in Buffalo at the 2026 NHL Draft. In his exit interview, Troy Mann spoke of Andre Mondoux as a player who could take on a leadership role when the team returns in the fall.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cHe really came into his own, hopefully we are going to hear his name called at the draft,\u201d <\/strong><\/em>said Mann.<\/strong> \u201cHe has the personality to help the team on the back end.\u201d<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

While he might not be a household name in Kingston yet, Ty Robar is a great example of how deep the Kingston Frontenacs 2025 draft class really is. With 28 days until the 2026 OHL Priority Selection kicks off in Kingston, we look at how number 28 for the Frontenacs could be a name to remember for this season and beyond.<\/span><\/p>\n

Robar, who was the 118th overall selection in last year’s draft, spent his minor hockey days playing for the Toronto Titans AAA program. In his U16 year, the right-handed forward scored 77 points in 74 games, which was in the top five on his team. Robar added 5 points in 6 games to his totals at the OHL Cup before the draft.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

With older players away at NHL camps, Robar laced them up for the Frontenacs when they took to the ice for the first time during the 2025-26 season. In the team’s home opener against the Ottawa 67\u2019s, Robar would score his first OHL goal and the Fronts’ first goal of the season. The 16-year-old would end up playing 10 games for Kingston throughout the season, with his most efficient appearance being on December 20th, when Robar scored twice against the Brampton Steelheads on the road.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI am very grateful for my first season with the Frontenacs,\u201d<\/em> said Robar in a message to the Frontenacs. \u201cBeing around the team, coaches and organization was a great experience, and it really helped me grow both on and off the ice.”<\/em><\/span><\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Robar would spend the majority of the season with the Pickering Panthers of the Ontario Junior Hockey League (OJHL), suiting up 37 times for the cats in the regular season. Recording an efficient 26 points, the young Frontenacs prospect was put in key situations for the Cats, playing in 14 playoff games this past spring.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Robar will come into Kingston training camp next fall with a chance to be a full-time member of the Frontenacs in the 2026-27 season. His experience with the team this season should help him develop into a key piece of a young Frontenacs core looking to make an impact on the league.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cMy focus in the off-season is getting bigger, stronger, faster and more prepared for camp this fall,\u201d<\/em> Robar continued in his message. \u201c I am counting down the days, and I am ready to earn every opportunity that comes my way.\u201d\u00a0<\/em><\/span><\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n
