Recap: Frontenacs fall to the IceDogs in Sunday action
Scoring Summary:
1st Period
KGN 0, NIAG 1
7:45 Alex Assadourian (1) – Matthew Virgillio, Andrei Loshko
The IceDogs kicked off the first period bringing the heat to the Frontenacs and peppering Mason Vaccari with shots fired his way. The IceDogs eventually struck first thanks to Alex Assadourian. The forward’s initial shot was stopped but the rebound fell to Assadourian and he buried the rebound into the back of the net to give the visitors the early 1-0 advantage.
KGN 1, NIAG 1
9:47 Matthew Soto (2) – Jacob Battaglia, Cal Uens
Kingston was quick to respond to the early Niagara tally thanks to Matthew Soto. Cal Uens fired a shot from the point and Jacob Battaglia did some tidy work in front of the net to try and bury home the loose puck but it was stopped by IceDogs netminder Owen Flores. Thankfully though, the puck was sitting all alone in the crease for Matthew Soto to tap in, bringing this game to a 1-1 score.
2nd Period
KGN 2, NIAG 1
0:57 Jacob Battaglia (3) – Cedrick Guindon, Quinton Burns
After being outshot 18-10 in the opening twenty minutes of action, Kingston came out early in the second looking to make a statement and Jacob Battaglia did just that. Ceddy Guindon left a drop pass from on the tape of Jacob Battaglia who fired a wrist shot right under the armpit of Owen Flores to give the Frontenacs a 2-1 lead just under a minute into the second frame.
3rd Period
KGN 2, NIAG 2
13:27 Kevin He (2) – Andrei Loshko
In a very similar play to Niagara’s first goal, Kevin He’s first shot was stopped by Mason Vaccari but He jammed in his own rebound to even the game up at 2-2.
KGN 2, NIAG 3
13:52 Kevin He (3) – Jack Brauti, Owen Flores
Less than 30 seconds later, Kevin He would strike again as he circled the Frontenacs zone and fired a shot from the top of the slot that found its way into the back of the net. He’s two goals in under 30 seconds quickly swung the momentum and the IceDogs didn’t look back.
KGN 2, NIAG 4
18:44 Andrei Loshko (2) – unassisted (EN)
KGN 2, NIAG 5
19:22 Max Crete (1) – Braidy Wassilyn (EN)
With Mason Vaccari on the bench for the extra attacker the Frontenacs had a big push but were stopped in their tracks by Owen Flores and the Niagara defence. The IceDogs scored two empty net goals to seal the victory and the two points in the standings.
