RECAP: Frontenacs can’t keep the puck out of the net in loss to North Bay
The calendar has officially flipped over from November to December, which must mean it’s time for our annual Teddy Bear Toss game in support of the Salvation Army. It also marks the much anticipated return to the lineup for Frontenacs’ forward Gabriel Frasca, who has been out of the lineup all season recovering from an injury. Gabriel scored the Teddy Bear Toss goal last season so it was only fitting that he would return to the lineup just in time for the same game this year.
Although Frasca scored the Teddy Bear Toss last year, it was the captain Paul Ludwinski getting the goal this year just over five minutes into the contest. Ludwinski’s 11th of the campaign let the bears rain down at the Leon’s Centre. The early goal in this contest was a sign of things to come as the goals came fast and furious the rest of the evening. North Bay’s Owen Van Steensel (12) evened the game up for the Battalion before Quinton Burns (2) and Ethan Miedema (8) would respond for the black and gold; giving the Frontenacs’ a 3-1 lead heading into the second period.
The Battalion would tie the game up at three a piece early in the second period with goals from Brice Cook (5) and Dylan Richter (1). Continuing to trade blows, Jacob Battaglia gave the Frontenacs the lead right back after scoring his 10th of the season on a Cintas powerplay. North Bay came right back with two quick goals from Anthony Romani (20) and Ty Nelson (11), making it a 5-4 lead for the Battalion. With three minutes to go in the period, Chris Thibodeau drove the net hard and was cross checked into Dominic DiVincentiis, but the puck crossed the goal line before the net came off its moorings; which means once again this game was tied up, this time at five a side. With just 10 seconds left in the period however, Dayln Wakely (9) would find the back of the net to make it 6-5 for North Bay.
Looking for a spark to start the final frame, JJ Salajko replaced Mason Vaccari between the pipes for Kingston; and it worked early on as Jacob Battaglia (11) would find the back of the net for the second time of the evening to tie the game up once again. The game would remain 6-6 until the midway point of the frame, where Ihnat Pazii (5) would snipe a shot over the right shoulder of JJ Salajko. North Bay’s seventh goal of the game would be the eventual game winner with the final score being 8-6 in favour of the Battalion. Justin Ertel (9) potted an empty netter to seal the deal for the visitors.
