RECAP: Eight different goal scorers in a 9-0 Victory for Kingston!
Scoring Summary:
1st Period
KGN 1, NB 0
9:04 Emil Pieniniemi (1) – Cedrick Guindon (PPG)
On the Frontenacs second powerplay opportunity of the game they didn’t take too long to find the back of the net. Cedrick Guindon won the offensive zone faceoff back to Pieniniemi and he fired a seeing eye shot towards the net and it beat Mike McIvor clean to open the scoring on the night, and it was also Pieniniemi’s first OHL goal.
KGN 2, NB 0
10:54 Cedrick Guindon (1) – Tuomas Uronen, Ethan Miedema
Once they got their first goal of the night, the Frontenacs didn’t look back and the floodgates opened. Tuomas Uronen drove the net hard and his first and second chances were denied, but Cedrick Guindon was there to clean up the rebound to score his first since joining the Black and Gold to double the Kingston lead.
KGN 3, NB 0
14:52 Tyler Hopkins (2) – Tuomas Uronen, Ethan Miedema
Just four minutes after Guindon doubled the Kingston lead, Tyler Hopkins decided to triple it. After Ethan Miedema did some digging in the corner the puck came loose for Tuomas Uronen. The Finnish import wrapped around the net and fed the puck out to Hopkins who blasted a one-timer by McIvor.
KGN 4, NB 0
19:36 Matthew Soto (3) – Jacob Battaglia, Quinton Burns
Right before the end of the opening period it was Matthew Soto scoring for his third consecutive game. Jacob Battaglia made a slick move around the Battalion defender and found Soto at the other side of the crease to get the Frontenacs lead up to 4-0. With the assist, Jacob Battaglia notched his 100th career OHL point.
2nd Period
KGN 5, NB 0
5:59 Luke McNamara (3) – Gage Heyes, Jacob Battaglia
A hard-nosed effort from Gage Heyes directly led to the Luke McNamara tally. The overage forward grinded away in the corner to win the loose puck and kicked it out to McNamara, who buried the wraparound for his third of the campaign.
KGN 6, NB 0
7:32 Ethan Miedema (2) – Cedrick Guindon, Quinton Burns
Not even two minutes after McNamara’s goal, Ethan Miedema joined in on the action. A one-timer from Cedrick Guindon was stopped but after some chaos in front of the net, Ethan Miedema tapped home his second of the season into the empty cage to extend the Frontenacs’ lead to 6-0.
KGN 7, NB 0
15:08 Jacob Battaglia (4) – Maleek McGowan, Tyler Hopkins
Kingston found themselves on an odd man rush after Tyler Hopkins fed a pass up the ice to a streaking Maleek McGowan. Jacob Battaglia joined McGowan on a 2-on-1 rush and the puck landed on his stick before he deked around the outstretched netminder to score Kingston’s seventh of the night.
KGN 8, NB 0
17:43 Matthew Soto (4) – Jacob Battaglia, Emil Pieniniemi
Matthew Soto notched his second of the game late in the second frame on a wrist shot that beat the North Bay netminder clean.
3rd Period
KGN 9, NB 0
6:34 Ben Pickell (2) – Maleek McGowan, Matthew Soto
In an eerily similar goal to Soto’s second of the night, Ben Pickell rushed up the left wing and fired a wrist shot on goal that found its way into the back of the net for Kingston’s ninth of the evening.
It was a statement victory, and one that the Frontenacs needed badly. Now back to .500 on the season, the Frontenacs turn their attention to Sunday when they welcome in the Ottawa 67’s.
Some notes….
- Jacob Battaglia now leads the OHL in scoring with 11 points in just 4 games.
- Nolan Lalonde gets his first win for his hometown team – also a shutout
- Eight different goal scorers in a nine goal performance for Kingston gets the depth scoring going
