Kingston outshoots Brantford but falls 3-2 to the Bulldogs

Frontenacs controlled the pace of play in the opening period and outshot the Bulldogs 12-4, but Ryerson Leenders stood tall. Kingston had some amazing defensive zone breakouts and didn’t allow the Bulldogs to have much breathing room in their offensive zone but alas, neither team found the back of the net in the first twenty minutes of action.
2nd Period
KGN 0, BFD 1
4:06 Nick Lardis (8) – Calvin Crombie, Noah Roberts
A breakthrough was finally found just after four minutes of action to kick off the second period. After a Ryerson Leenders save, the Bulldogs gathered the rebound and quickly went the other way. Calvin Crombie fed a pass to Nick Lardis who came flying into the Frontenacs’ zone, and his wrist shot beat Mason Vaccari clean over the glove.

16:11 Tuomas Uronen (2) – Cedrick Guindon, Matthew Soto (PPG)
The Frontenacs got on the board with their first man advantage of the afternoon late in the second frame. Cedrick Guindon gathered a rebound at the blueline to keep the puck in the offensive zone. Guindon took his time and found Tuomas Uronen in stride and he unleashed a laser of a wrist shot that beat Leenders to even the game up at 1-1.

19:08 Luca Testa (2) – Jake O’Brien, Calvin Crombie
Brantford would regain the lead before the second came to a close off a Luca Testa tally. Calvin Crombie banked the puck off the glass in his own defensive zone and Jake O’Brien ended up winning the race at the other end of the ice. O’Brien fed Testa with a cross crease pass for a tap in to take a 2-1 lead heading in to the third period.
3rd Period
KGN 2, BFD 2
8:49 Tyler Hopkins (3) – Matthew Soto, Jacob Battaglia
Kingston found the tying goal off the stick of Tyler Hopkins. Matthew Soto fed Hopkins the puck and he entered the zone with a burst of speed. Hopkins created space around his defender and fired a wrister towards the net that fooled Ryerson Leenders are tied the game at 2-2.
KGN 2, BFD 3
19:35 Cole Brown (1) – Calvin Crombie, Owen Protz
Just 25 seconds away from overtime, the Bulldogs found the game winner off the stick of Cole Brown. Brown and Crombie played a good give and go play on the right wall and it led to Brown slotting the puck under the arm of Vaccari to give Brantford both points on the day.
