With just a few weeks left until the 2026 OHL Priority Selection, André Mondoux is an example of how it’s not just the first round picks that become stars in the league.

The product of Sturgeon Falls, Ontario, was relatively unknown heading into his draft year, playing for the North Bay Trappers program before joining the Toronto Titans in his U16 season. Despite a lack of production as a stay-at-home defenseman, Mondoux caught the eyes of the Frontenacs scouting staff with his size and skating ability. 204 names were called before the Frontenacs selected André Mondoux in the 11th round of the 2023 OHL Priority Selection.

Mondoux spent the majority of his first two junior hockey seasons with the Pickering Panthers in the Ontario Junior Hockey League (OJHL). Suiting up in 103 games for the Panthers, Mondoux would record nine goals and 27 points in his time, all while continuing to sharpen his defensive skills. Mondoux made his Frontenacs debut on December 20, 2024 and suited up seven more times during the 2024-25 campaign.

After impressing in limited action with the Frontenacs, Mondoux was invited to the Philadelphia Flyers Rookie camp in September, where he gained valuable experience that he brought back to Kingston for his first full season.

Starting the season as an 18-year old, Mondoux was heavily relied on throughout his first season by Head Coach Troy Mann. Playing in 66 regular season games and all four playoff games. Mondoux not only saw a heavy workload five-on-five, but was also used frequently on the penalty kill throughout the year. The defencemen also showed flashes of offence, dangling his way through opposing teams multiple times, and scoring six times, two of which were game-winning goals.

“Just being able to gain the coach's trust was a big thing for me,” said Mondoux in his exit interview this season. “ My goal was to be a top-six guy, I ended up being a guy they trusted on the penalty kill and in big minutes.”

The 2026-27 season shapes up to be a big one for Frontenacs defencemen. Mondoux has the attention of NHL scouts and is hopeful to hear his name called in Buffalo at the 2026 NHL Draft. In his exit interview, Troy Mann spoke of Andre Mondoux as a player who could take on a leadership role when the team returns in the fall.

“He really came into his own, hopefully we are going to hear his name called at the draft,” said Mann. “He has the personality to help the team on the back end.”

While he might not be a household name in Kingston yet, Ty Robar is a great example of how deep the Kingston Frontenacs 2025 draft class really is. With 28 days until the 2026 OHL Priority Selection kicks off in Kingston, we look at how number 28 for the Frontenacs could be a name to remember for this season and beyond.

Robar, who was the 118th overall selection in last year's draft, spent his minor hockey days playing for the Toronto Titans AAA program. In his U16 year, the right-handed forward scored 77 points in 74 games, which was in the top five on his team. Robar added 5 points in 6 games to his totals at the OHL Cup before the draft.

With older players away at NHL camps, Robar laced them up for the Frontenacs when they took to the ice for the first time during the 2025-26 season. In the team's home opener against the Ottawa 67’s, Robar would score his first OHL goal and the Fronts' first goal of the season. The 16-year-old would end up playing 10 games for Kingston throughout the season, with his most efficient appearance being on December 20th, when Robar scored twice against the Brampton Steelheads on the road.

“I am very grateful for my first season with the Frontenacs,” said Robar in a message to the Frontenacs. “Being around the team, coaches and organization was a great experience, and it really helped me grow both on and off the ice."

Robar would spend the majority of the season with the Pickering Panthers of the Ontario Junior Hockey League (OJHL), suiting up 37 times for the cats in the regular season. Recording an efficient 26 points, the young Frontenacs prospect was put in key situations for the Cats, playing in 14 playoff games this past spring.

Robar will come into Kingston training camp next fall with a chance to be a full-time member of the Frontenacs in the 2026-27 season. His experience with the team this season should help him develop into a key piece of a young Frontenacs core looking to make an impact on the league.

“My focus in the off-season is getting bigger, stronger, faster and more prepared for camp this fall,” Robar continued in his message. “ I am counting down the days, and I am ready to earn every opportunity that comes my way.”

Don’t miss your chance to see the next generation of Frontenacs hear their name called at the 2026 OHL Priority Selection, returning to an in-person format live in Kingston at Slush Puppie Place on June 12-13.

We don’t have far to look back to remember when Aleks Kulemin was selected 9th overall in the 2025 OHL Priority selection draft, but with 41 days remaining until the 2026 draft kicks off in Kingston, let’s highlight what was a great year for the Frontenacs rookie.

Entering the 2025 OHL Priority Selection, Kulemin was a top prospect after an incredibly productive season with the Don Mills Flyers U16 AAA team, where over the course of the season he collected 98 points. The production, matched with Kulemin's 6’2” frame and physical play style, made the son of former NHLer Nikolai Kulemin a can’t miss prospect.

At perhaps the centre of the Frontenacs young core, Kulemin was a difference maker immediately for Kingston. Scoring his first career OHL goal just five games into the season, Kulemin would keep moving up the lineup as the season wore on. The Woodbridge native would go on to record 31 points in 57 games in his first season.

“I think I got better as the season went on, day by day, month by month,” said Kulemin. “It was a grind, especially in the playoffs, but you learn to cherish all the moments.”

Kulemin missed a handful of games this year to represent Team Canada White at the U-17 championship in Truro, Nova Scotia, along with fellow Frontenacs rookie Matthew Henderson. In five games wearing the red and white, Kulemin would score twice and add two helpers on his way to earning a silver medal at the tournament.

As the OHL season progressed, Kulemin would consistently be handed more responsibilities and was a major factor in the organization's decision to get younger at the trade deadline in January. After starting the season as the fourth-line centre, Kulemin and the ‘kid line’, which consisted of Kulemin, Robin Kuzma, and Nolan Snyder, were the go-to for Head Coach Troy Mann in key moments down the stretch of the regular season and into the playoffs.

“It means a lot, you know that’s where you want to play, it’s why you play this game” Kulemin told the Frontenacs media staff before heading home for the summer. “To be out there with a minute left, taking O-zone draws, it was a huge moment for me.”

After receiving praise across the OHL for his play during his rookie season, number 41 for the Kingston Frontenacs will be seen as a game-breaker heading into the 2026-27 season and is likely to be a top prospect in next summer's NHL draft.

Don’t miss your chance to see the next generation of Frontenacs hear their name called at the 2026 OHL Priority Selection, returning to an in-person format live in Kingston at Slush Puppie Place on June 12-13.
In the words of Head Coach Troy Mann, Gavin Betts has the ability to be a star in this league. It all started with the 37th overall selection in the 2024 OHL Priority Selection. With just 43 days left until the 2026 OHL Priority Selection draft kicks off in Kingston, let’s take a look back at where it all started for number 43.

Despite being a second round pick, Betts was the first goalie selected in 2024. He played his U16 season in the Greater Toronto Hockey League (GTHL) with the Mississauga Rebels U16 AAA team and while the young goalie was great all season, Betts especially stood out in the 2024 OHL Cup. Betts started five games for the Rebels, posting an impressive 2.18 GAA and a .915 SV%, all while facing the most shots of any goalie at the tournament.

Betts spent the majority of his first junior hockey season with the Pickering Panthers of the Ontario Junior Hockey League (OJHL). Although he served as the backup on a veteran Panthers team, Betts posted a .920 SV% in 18 appearances with Pickering and, even better; a .945 SV% to go along with a 2.02 GAA in two playoff games. The 16-year-old goalie would make nine appearances with the Frontenacs during the 2024-25 season, showing flashes of brilliance, including a highlight reel save against the Brampton Steelheads.

Coming into the 2025-26 season, it was well established that Betts was the guy for the Frontenacs, and he did not disappoint. In 43 games this season, Betts posted a .905 SV% and a 2.81 GAA. He and Matthew Minchak combined to make goaltending a strength for Kingston all season long. Down the stretch, Betts needed to be good and once again delivered. In the final two months of the regular season, Betts took his game up a notch with a .917 SV%, winning five consecutive starts in March.

“As the year went on, I think we really came together as a team” said Betts in his post-season exit interview with the Frontenacs. “Individually, I know that really helped my performance a lot.
