Game Day: Kingston Frontenacs vs. Erie Otters – Sept 10, 2023
KINGSTON FRONTENACS VS ERIE OTTERS
2:00PM | LEON’S CENTRE | SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 10TH, 2023
The Kingston Frontenacs (0-2-0-0) return home to the Leon’s Centre for an afternoon matchup against the Erie Otters (3-0-0-0). This is the second preseason game against the Western Conference Otters in less than 24 hours. The two teams made acquaintances last night in a neutral-site game in Cornwall, Ontario. The Otters left the Cornwall Civic Complex with a 7-3 victory, making this afternoon’s tilt a revenge game for the Frontenacs.
Game Notes:
Defense Chipping In: The defence led the charge for the Kingston Frontenacs offensively in last night’s matchup against the Otters. Tommy Budnick scored a pair of goals and newly signed blueliner Cameron Bergeron added an assist on Maddox Callens second period marker. The Frontenacs will need the defensive units to continue to produce from the backend to break Erie’s three-game win streak.
Keeping the Power Turned On: The Kingston Frontenacs have scored a powerplay goal in both of their preseason matchups so far. The team will need to keep this trend going in today’s preseason game, as special teams can be the difference in back-to-back game days with short turnaround times.
Protecting the Crease: Rookie goaltender J.J. Salajko was in net for the Kingston Frontenacs last night and it was his first full game in the Ontario Hockey League. Salajko made 23 saves against an all out Erie attack. The young goalie showed poise in net and the ability to battle through adversity throughout the game. He made several breakaway saves and helped keep the game in reach for the Frontenacs. It is yet to be seen in net for the Black and Gold today, but it will be a great opportunity for either goalie to continue to get game ready as the regular season draws near.
Just Win, Baby: Although it is preseason and the key focus is developing players and getting ready for a long OHL season, it would be great for this group to get a win in their final home preseason game. Except to see a few lineup changes in today’s game and more chemistry between the players now that the have two preseasin games under their belts. There is no better day than today to get in the win column.
