Game Day Report: KGN at PBO – Sept 22, 2023
KINGSTON FRONTENACS VS PETERBOROUGH PETES
7:05 PM | NORWOOD ARENA | FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 22ND, 2023
The Kingston Frontenacs (1-2-0-0) enter their final weekend of preseason hockey with a neutral site matchup against the Peterborough Petes (1-2-0-0) in Norwood, Ontario. Tonight’s game is scheduled to start at 7:05pm and when the final whistle blows, one team will see their preseason record return to .500.
Both teams enter tonight’s contest coming off wins. The Kingston Frontenacs last played on September 10th at the Leon’s Centre against the Erie Otters. Mason Vaccari backstopped the Fronts to a 2-0 win, while seeing goals by Ethan Weir and Paul Ludwinski. Peterborough got out of Sudbury with a 6-5 shootout win over the Wolves in their last game on September 9th. Petes’ forward Jonathan Melee led the attack with a 3-point outing.
Tonight’s Storylines:
- Shaking off the Rust: Both teams are coming off two-week layoffs from action. It will be important to establish a rhythm early and for players to get their legs under them again. The team that can shake off the rust the quickest, will have the upperhand.
- Gone Camping: Paul Ludwinski (CHI), Quinton Burns (STL), Ethan Miedema (BUF) and Matthew Soto (PIT) are all attending NHL training camps. It will leave the Frontenacs with the task of balancing lines and testing new combinations. This also provides the younger players with an opportunity to play a bigger role.
- Building on Success: The Frontenacs are coming off a game that saw the Black and Gold play solid team defence in a 2-0 win over the Otters. The team will look to continue this trend as they move closer to the start of the 2023-24 season.
