Frontenacs Sign Three Players out of Training Camp
Kingston, Ontario – The Kingston Frontenacs Hockey Club is excited to announce the signing of a trio of players to OHL Scholarship and Development agreements following our 2024 training camp. Forwards Ben Pickell and Max Shewfelt, along with defenceman Lukas Moore have signed with the team for the 2024-25 season.
Ben Pickell was originally drafted by the Barrie Colts in the third round of the 2021 OHL Priority Selection. He has appeared in 22 OHL games scoring 3 goals and 2 assists. Ben split the 2023-24 season between the Pickering Panthers and Trenton Golden Hawks of the OJHL where he scored 23 goals and 31 assists for 54 points in 40 games. He added 6 goals and 11 assists in 16 playoff games with Trenton. The 5’ 9” center from Courtice, ON joined the Frontenacs as a free agent invite at camp.
“Ben brings experience and versatility to our lineup.” said General Manager, Kory Cooper. “He is a high energy player who found his scoring touch in junior last season. He will be able to impact our lineup on a nightly basis.”
Lukas Moore was a fourth round 2023 OHL Priority Selection by the Frontenacs. Also from Courtice, ON, the 6’ 2”, 195 lbs. defenceman spent last season with the Lindsay Muskies of the OJHL. He appeared in 29 games as a 16-year-old for the junior ‘A’ club, recording 2 assists.
“Lukas is a big bodied, smooth skating, right-handed defenceman.” said General Manager, Kory Cooper. “He has taken big strides in his development since we drafted him in 2023 and we are looking forward to continuing his progression at the next level.”
Max Shewfelt was a first-round pick by the Frontenacs in the 2024 OHL U18 Priority Selection. He had an outstanding season as the captain of the Ottawa Myers Automotive AAA U18 team scoring 19 goals and 18 assists in 30 games. Originally born in Kitchener, the 5’ 11”, 172 lbs. left winger grew up playing minor hockey in the Ottawa area.
“Max had a big U18 season.” said General Manager, Kory Cooper. “He is a strong skater and came to camp showing that he can make the jump to the next level. We have high hopes for his future with our organization.”
Cooper added “All three players add to the depth of our hockey club. They came to camp determined to prove themselves and earned the opportunity to sign an OHL deal. We are happy to have them as part of our organization.”
The Frontenacs won their opening preseason game 5-1 over the Ottawa 67’s. Ben Pickell had a goal and an assist, and Max Shewfelt had an assist of his own in the victory. Kingston’s next preseason game is on September 20th at Slush Puppie Place against the Peterborough Petes at 7 PM.
