Fast Five: Kingston at Sault Ste. Marie
The Kingston Frontenacs (13-13-1-0) kicked off their Northern road trip with a thrilling 4-3 victory against the North Bay Battalion last night. Now, facing a formidable challenge on the second night of back-to-back games, the Black and Gold are set to clash with the Soo Greyhounds (18-8-2-0) at the GFL Memorial Gardens tonight at 7:07 pm.
This marks the second and final regular-season encounter between these teams, with Sault Ste. Marie securing a 6-0 win in their earlier matchup at the Leon’s Centre on October 20th. The Frontenacs aim to redeem themselves and secure a victory in the Greyhounds’ territory tonight.

Here are five storylines to track in tonight’s game.
Challenge a Top Seed
The Soo Greyhounds enter tonight’s contest as the 2nd ranked team in the Ontario Hockey League’s weekly Power Rankings. They currently sit second overall in the entire league with 38 points and they are the second highest scoring team with 120 goals in 28 games played. Kingston is currently riding a two-game win streak and they will need to find their legs early and often in this contest to show they are capable of going toe-to-toe with a top performing team.
Previous Matchup
Kingston aims to demonstrate a significant transformation since their last encounter with the Soo Greyhounds. In the prior matchup, the game remained competitive for the initial 20 minutes, with both teams entering the first intermission without a score. However, in the subsequent 40 minutes, the Greyhounds, led by Marco Mignosa, seized control, netting 6 unanswered goals to secure the victory.
By The Numbers
The Greyhounds enter tonight’s game with a record of 6-2-2-0 in their last 10 games. The teams most notable wins in that span came against #1 ranked Saginaw (4-3) and #5 ranked Mississauga (5-2). The Frontenacs are 5-4-1-0 in their last 10 games and secured big victories over #6 ranked Ottawa, #7 ranked North Bay and #8 ranked Flint. Both teams are playing good hockey, which makes for a compelling matchup.
Players to Watch
Jack Beck (#12) of the Greyhounds enters the game as Soo’s leading scorer with 30 points. Out of those 30 points, Jack has collected 22 assists, making him a threat the Frontenacs will need to control as his playmaking abilities can get his teammates going. For the Frontenacs, their biggest contributor to watch heading into tonight’s game is Linus Hemstrom. Linus is currently on a 6-game point streak where he has collected 13 points (4G,9A). Last night he scored 4 points (1G,3A) and was named the OHL Performer of the Night.
Find Success
In the past five years, Kingston holds a record of 1-1-1-0 when travelling to GFL Memorial Gardens and a challenging overall record of 1-5-1-0 against the Greyhounds. The situation evokes a sense of déjà vu similar to last night’s game in North Bay. However, the positive takeaway is that Kingston demonstrated the ability to overcome past records as they secured a victory at North Bay Memorial Gardens in their last five attempts. They will aim to do the same tonight at GFL Memorial Gardens.
