Count Frontenac looks to boost Kingston Friday night against the Petes
Kingston, ON – The Frontenacs are back at Slush Puppie Place this weekend after a two game road-trip to end last week, and the sixth game of the year for Kingston provides an opportunity to bounce back after struggling just days ago.
It’s no secret, the Frontenacs stumbled during their three in three weekend. Falling to the Sarnia Sting, Brantford Bulldogs, and Kitchener Rangers all while being outscored 21-10 in those three games. What the box score won’t tell you is that the Frontenacs played well in Kitchener on Sunday in response to the Branford loss on Saturday.
A controversial Tanner Lam goal sent the game off the rails for a tired Kingston group late in the game at the Kitchener Auditorium, but prior to that the Frontenacs showed their character fighting hard against the defending Memorial Cup Champions, even taking a lead into the final frame.
The point of all this? The Frontenacs proved even in a small sample size that they will bounce back after getting punched in the nose, and are expected to do that again Friday night against the Peterborough Petes.
Y2K night and the return of Count Frontenac marks the second meeting between the Petes and Frontenacs but the first at Slush Puppie Place. After weathering the storm in the season opener in Peterborough, the Frontenacs offence came alive led by Alex McLean, Landon Wright, and Nolan Snyder leading to a 6-3 Frontenac win.
The offensive recipe will likely be the same for Kingston Friday night. The Frontenacs enter Friday tied for fourth in goals for this season, with 19. The Petes, who shutout the Erie Otters Thursday night 4-0 backed by Masen Johnston will likely have to turn to newly acquired goalie Matthew Koprowski. Koprowski, who played in Owen Sound last season, allowed four goals on nine shots in his last start at Slush Puppie Place in February of 2026 before being pulled in favour of Tristen Bennet in the first period.
In addition to the offensive optimism heading into Friday night, the Frontenacs will be dressed to impress, dawning their brand new Count Frontenac third jerseys for the first time this season.
Players to Watch:
Kingston: Robin Kuzma
Some may call second year forward Robin Kuzma the playmaker of the Frontenacs this season. Entering Friday, Kuzma has five assists but is still looking for his first goal of the year. In a game where the Frontenacs offence will be leaned on, except Kuzma to not only start plays but finish them against the Petes Friday night.
Peterborough: Adam Novotnȳ
The first round pick of the Vancouver Canucks in this past NHL Draft, was away at NHL camp when the Frontenacs faced the Petes on September 17. Since returning, the Czech super-star has seven points in four games and will likely be dangerous again on Friday.
