FLINT \u2013 <\/strong>The Flint Firebirds announced on Wednesday that they have acquired a third round OHL Priority Selection draft pick from the Brantford Bulldogs in exchange for defenseman George Komadoski.<\/p>\n

Komadoski was originally signed by the Firebirds as a free agent in June of 2025. He went on to play 50 games as a rookie for the Birds during the 2025-26 season and recorded three assists. The St. Louis, Missouri native has announced a verbal commitment to play NCAA D1 hockey at Notre Dame University.<\/p>\n

Flint is receiving the Saginaw Spirit\u2019s 2027 third round pick in exchange for Komadoski. The Firebirds organization wishes Komadoski the best of luck in his new opportunity with the Bulldogs.<\/p>\n

The 2026 OHL Priority Selection will take place on June 12 and 13, live at Slush Puppie Place in Kingston. Flint owns the 15th<\/sup> overall pick in the first round, which is set to begin at 7 pm on June 12.<\/p>\n

FLINT \u2013 <\/strong>The Flint Firebirds announced on Wednesday that they have acquired the Kingston Frontenacs\u2019 2026 first round CHL Import Draft pick, along with four other draft picks, in exchange for their 2027 first round CHL Import Draft pick and four additional draft choices.<\/p>\n

Flint is receiving Kingston\u2019s 2026 first and second round CHL Import Draft selections and its 2027 third round CHL Import Draft choice. The Firebirds will also get two OHL Priority Selection picks in the deal; the Windsor Spitfires\u2019 2026 third round pick and its own 2029 second round pick. Flint will send its 2027 first round CHL Import Draft pick and its 2026 second and third round CHL Import Draft picks. The Firebirds will also ship two OHL Priority Selection picks to Kingston; the Brampton Steelheads\u2019 2026 second round choice and their own 2029 eighth round choice.<\/p>\n

Flint now owns two first round picks in the 2026 CHL Import Draft and one third round pick. CHL teams are each allowed to carry three import players on their roster, a rule that was expanded from two players beginning in the 2025-26 season. The Firebirds had three imports on their roster in the 2025-26 season. Urban Podrekar, who was also an overager and is no longer eligible to play in the OHL, Darels Uljanskis, who has announced a commitment to play NCAA D1 hockey at St. Cloud State University, and Ihnat Pazii, who has announced a commitment to play NCAA D1 hockey at St. Lawrence University.<\/p>\n

FLINT \u2013 <\/strong>The Ontario Hockey League announced on Tuesday that Firebirds forward Nathan Aspinall has been named the OHL First All-Star Team left wing for the 2025-26 season.<\/p>\n

Aspinall registered 33 goals and 61 assists over 65 games played during the 2025-26 season. His 61 assists set a new Firebirds franchise record, and his 94 points were the second-most in the OHL. He chipped in with an additional 10 goals and seven assists over eight postseason games. Aspinall was named Flint\u2019s captain during the preseason and was signed to an NHL entry-level contract by the New York Rangers in October.<\/p>\n

The 6\u20197 winger was also named a finalist for the Red Tilson Trophy, which is given annually to the OHL\u2019s most outstanding player, and for the Mickey Renaud Captain\u2019s Trophy, which awarded annually to the OHL team captain that best exemplifies leadership on and off the ice as well as hard work, passion and a dedication to the game of hockey and their community.<\/p>\n

Aspinall led the Firebirds to new franchise records in points (95) and wins (44) during the 2025-26 season. He is joined on the first all-star team by Sam O\u2019Reilly of the Kitchener Rangers (C), Nikita Klepov of the Saginaw Spirit (RW), Kashawn Aitcheson of the Barrie Colts (D), Chase Reid of the Soo Greyhounds (D) and Ryder Fetterolf of the Ottawa 67\u2019s (G). Ottawa\u2019s Dave Cameron was named the coach of the team.<\/p>\n

FLINT \u2013 <\/strong>The Flint Firebirds announced on Tuesday that they have acquired goaltender Trenten Bennett from the Owen Sound Attack in exchange for four OHL Priority Selection draft picks.<\/p>\n

Bennett joins the Firebirds after spending the past two seasons with the Attack. In 33 games during his OHL career, Bennett is 10-14-1-1 with a 3.69 goals against average and a .901 save percentage. He played in 27 games for Owen Sound during the 2025-26 season and was 9-10-1-1 with a 3.93 GAA and .896 save percentage. Bennett was selected by the New Jersey Devils in the fourth round of the 2025 NHL Draft.<\/p>\n

Flint is sending the Sudbury Wolves\u2019 2026 third round pick, the Oshawa Generals\u2019 2029 fifth round pick, its own 2029 sixth round and the Attack\u2019s 2028 15th<\/sup> round pick to Owen Sound in the deal. The 2006-born Bennett stands at 6\u20198 at will be considered an overager during the 2026-27 season.<\/p>\n

Longtime Flint Firebirds Scout Don Harkins passed away over the weekend, leaving behind a legacy of a lifetime spent dedicated to the sport of hockey. With roots in the organization dating back to when it competed as the Plymouth Whalers, Don took immense pride in his ability to identify elite talent, a skill valued and respected by the Firebirds organization and countless others in the hockey world. That skill led to the Whalers and Firebirds signing future NHL players such as Sonny Milano and Ryan Hartman, in addition to current players Zack Bleick and Landon Pickersgill. FLINT \u2013 <\/strong>The Ontario Hockey League announced on Wednesday that Firebirds forward Nathan Aspinall has been named a finalist for the Mickey Renaud Captain\u2019s Trophy.<\/p>\n

The Mickey Renaud Captain\u2019s Trophy is awarded annually to the OHL team captain that best exemplifies leadership on and off the ice as well as hard work, passion and a dedication to the game of hockey and their community.<\/p>\n

Aspinall registered 33 goals and 61 assists over 65 games played during the 2025-26 season. His 61 assists set a new Firebirds franchise record, and his 94 points were the second-most in the OHL. Aspinall was named Flint\u2019s captain during the preseason and was signed to an NHL entry-level contract by the New York Rangers in October. He is one of four finalists for the award, joining Jake O\u2019Brien of the Brantford Bulldogs, Brady Martin of the Soo Greyhounds and Liam Greentree of the Windsor Spitfires.<\/p>\n

The Firebirds have twice had a captain honored with the Mickey Renaud Captain\u2019s Trophy; Alex Peters won it for the 2016-17 season and Ty Dellandrea won it for the 2019-20 season. The OHL has awarded it since the 2008-09 season, following the February 2008 passing of Renaud, then the captain of the Windsor Spitfires. Candidates are reviewed and narrowed down via a panel of accredited media.<\/p>\n

With Aspinall as captain, the Firebirds set new franchise records in points (95) and wins (44) during the 2025-26 season. They swept the Owen Sound Attack in the first round of the 2026 OHL Playoffs before ultimately falling to the Windsor Spitfires in the second round.<\/p>\n

FLINT \u2013 <\/strong>The Ontario Hockey League announced on Friday that Firebirds General Manager Dave McParlan has been awarded the Jim Gregory Trophy as the OHL General Manager of the Year.<\/p>\n

McParlan recently completed his third season as Flint\u2019s GM, during which the Firebirds set new franchise records in points (95) and wins (44). He was named a finalist along with Marty Williamson of the Barrie Colts following a voting process that was carried out by OHL General Managers. McParlan was then determined the winner via a panel that consisted of accredited OHL media members and a representative from NHL Central Scouting.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am completely humbled to receive the Jim Gregory Award,\u201d McParlan said. \u201cThe fact that this recognition came from a vote of my fellow General Managers is what makes it feel so special. I am proud to be part of a select few that have the privilege to work in this league, let alone be considered for such an incredible honor.\u201d<\/p>\n

McParlan got his start in the OHL as an area scout for the Plymouth Whalers in the 2006-07 season, a season that saw the Whalers win the J. Ross Robertson Cup and be crowned OHL champions. He eventually became Plymouth\u2019s Director of Scouting and stayed with the franchise for its move to Flint in 2015-16. McParlan became the Firebirds\u2019 Assistant General Manager in the 2022-23 season and took over as GM in the 2023-24 season.<\/p>\n

\u201cI would like to congratulate our General Manager Dave McParlan on receiving the OHL General Manager of the Year Award,\u201d Firebirds Owner and Governor Rolf Nilsen said. \u201cThe 2025-26 season for the Firebirds was the best in our 10-year history. Dave is the first to give our scouts, coaches, and players the credit for this award, but he is the one who is ultimately in charge of our draft, trades, and placement of our prospects in the right environment to maximize their development.\u00a0We are all extremely happy for Dave and appreciate the hard work he and our staff have done to make the Flint Firebirds one of the best teams in the OHL throughout the year.\u201d<\/p>\n

McParlan built the roster that turned in the most successful regular season in Firebirds history with a series of shrewd acquisitions and signings. Flint signed past OHL Priority Selection draft picks in defensemen Luka Graziano and Dryden Allen as well as forward Darian Anderson. The Firebirds acquired goaltender Mason Vaccari in the offseason, who has been named a finalist for OHL Goaltender of the Year, and traded up to select defenseman Darels Uljanskis in the CHL Import Draft.<\/p>\n

Flint accented its roster during the season as McParlan made moves to add Winnipeg Jets forward prospect Kevin He, then Calgary Flames and now New York Rangers forward prospect Jacob Battaglia, along with forwards Brady Smith and Ihnat Pazii.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe reality is this is an award that recognizes and reflects the work of the entire organization, from the top down,\u201d McParlan said. \u201cEveryone from our owner, coaching staff, scouting staff, business operations staff and the players deserve a large portion of credit. I simply surround myself with smart people and listen to their recommendations as we all work towards a common goal.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Red Tilson Trophy is the OHL\u2019s most prestigious individual award and was first presented in 1945. It is named in honor of Albert \u201cRed\u201d Tilson, the OHA\u2019s leading scoring from the 1942-43 season who was killed in action in Europe during World War II. The trophy is voted on by the accredited writers and broadcasters who cover the OHL.<\/p>\n

Aspinall is one of five finalists for the award. He is joined by Cole Beaudoin of the Barrie Colts, Jake O\u2019Brien of the Brantford Bulldogs, Sam O\u2019Reilly of the Kitchener Rangers and Nikita Klepov of the Saginaw Spirit.
