Urban Podrekar Commits to Ferris State University
FLINT – Firebirds defenseman Urban Podrekar announced on Monday that he has committed to play NCAA hockey at Ferris State University.
Podrekar is in his second season with the Firebirds and his third in the OHL. The overage defenseman will join the NCAA D1 program for the 2026-27 season after completing his OHL eligibility at the conclusion of the 2025-26 season. In 48 games played this season, Podrekar has eight goals and 25 assists. His 33 points lead all Firebirds defensemen.
Located in Big Rapids, Michigan, Ferris State competes in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association. They have qualified for the NCAA tournament four times and were the national runners up at the 2012 Frozen Four.
