Firebirds Sign Import Pick Martins Klaucans
FLINT – The Flint Firebirds announced on Friday that they have signed forward Martins Klaucans to a Standard Player Agreement.
“I’m very excited for this next chapter,” Klaucans said. “I’ve heard a lot of good things about the organization. I can’t wait to meet the guys and get on the ice.”
Klaucans was drafted by Flint with the 28th overall selection in the CHL Import Draft in June. He has spent the last two seasons playing in North America, most recently with the Sherbrooke Phoenix in the QMJHL last year. In 50 games with the Phoenix, Klaucans had four goals and seven assists. In 2024-25, he spent the year with the St. Cloud Norsemen of the NAHL.
Klaucans is a native of Riga, Latvia, the same hometown as recent Firebirds Darels Uljanskis and Karlis Flugins. He played for his nation’s U18 national team the past three seasons and the U20 national team in the past two.

“Martins is a high-character player that plays with pace. Whether tracking opponents or gaining the offensive zone, he is always moving his feet. His compete level is what set him apart from others at the World U18’s.”
Flint opens the season on Sept. 19 in Saginaw against the Spirit. The home opener for the Firebirds is Saturday, Sept. 26 against the Niagara IceDogs. Puck drop at the Dort Financial Center is set for 7 p.m.
