The Ontario Hockey League has named Ben Wilmott<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/em> of the Barrie Colts<\/span><\/span> the Cogeco OHL Player of the Week<\/strong>, following a dominant opening-round performance that helped send Barrie into the second round of the 2026 OHL Playoffs.<\/p>\n

Wilmott paced the league with eight points (4-4\u20138) over three games, playing a pivotal role in the Colts\u2019 series win over the Niagara IceDogs<\/span><\/span>. He opened the stretch with a goal and two assists in a 5-2 road victory before delivering a two-goal, one-assist effort in a 9-6 win that put Barrie firmly in control of the series. He closed out the round with a goal and an assist in a decisive 5-0 victory on home ice.<\/p>\n

Acquired mid-season from the London Knights<\/span><\/span>, Wilmott has quickly solidified himself as a key piece of the Colts\u2019 lineup. The 19-year-old centreman from Long Valley, New Jersey has brought a reliable two-way presence, blending size, awareness, and compete level to make an immediate and consistent impact.<\/p>\n

Following the move, Wilmott recorded 34 points (12-22\u201334) in 37 regular-season games with Barrie, seamlessly integrating into the lineup while providing steady offensive production.<\/p>\n

His game has elevated further in the postseason, where he has registered 10 points (5-5\u201310) through five games. Whether driving play, creating opportunities, or delivering in key moments, Wilmott has been a constant presence in Barrie\u2019s attack.<\/p>\n

The Barrie Colts are set for Round Two of the OHL Playoffs as they take on the Ottawa 67\u2019s in a best-of-seven series.<\/p>\n

Following an exciting opening round, the Colts will look to carry their momentum forward while opening the series on home ice at Sadlon Arena.<\/p>\n

Season Series & Matchup Breakdown<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The Round Two meeting between Barrie and Ottawa sets up as one of the most evenly matched series in the OHL Playoffs.<\/p>\n

Historically, this matchup has been as tight as it gets. Across more than 40 meetings, the two clubs have split results nearly evenly, with both sides hovering around the .500 mark and only a narrow goal differential separating them.<\/p>\n

That parity carried into this season, as the Colts and 67\u2019s traded wins throughout the year. Barrie earned a high-scoring 8\u20135 victory in February, while Ottawa responded by closing out the season series with a 3\u20132 overtime win in March.<\/p>\n

On a charged Saturday night, the Barrie Colts delivered a commanding 5-0 win over the Niagara IceDogs in Game 5, securing their place in the second round of the OHL playoffs. The victory gave the Colts a 4-1 series win over the IceDogs and propelled them forward in their playoff journey.<\/p>\n

From the opening seconds, the game was intense. Just 18 seconds in, captains Cole Beaudoin<\/strong><\/em> and Ryan Czata faced off in a spirited bout, followed by another fight a minute later between Calvin Crombie<\/strong><\/em> and Smith. Despite the early roughness, the Colts settled in and began to dominate. Barrie capitalized on their power play as Gardiner banged home a rebound, giving them a 1-0 lead.<\/p>\n

In the second period, the Colts kept the pressure on. Cole Beaudoin set up Carter Lowe<\/strong><\/em> for a breakaway goal, and Ben Wilmott<\/strong><\/em> added a top-corner strike, pushing Barrie\u2019s lead to 3-0. The Barrie Colts delivered a dominant offensive performance Thursday night at the Meridian Centre, defeating the Niagara IceDogs 9\u20136 in Game 4 of their opening-round playoff series.<\/p>\n

Barrie set the tone immediately, erupting for five goals in a commanding first period to seize control of the game. Ben Wilmott<\/span><\/span> <\/strong><\/em>opened the scoring before Nic Desiderio<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/em> quickly followed to extend the early lead.<\/p>\n

Cole Beaudoin<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/em> added to the surge with his first of the night, while Emil Hemming<\/span><\/span> <\/strong><\/em>found the back of the net shortly after. Beaudoin struck again later in the frame, capping off a five-goal opening period that put the Colts firmly in control.<\/p>\n

The Colts continued to apply pressure in the second period, adding three more goals to extend their lead. Brad Gardner<\/strong> <\/span><\/span><\/em>scored on the power play before Mason Zebeski<\/span><\/span> followed with what stood as the game-winning goal. The Ontario Hockey League<\/span><\/span> announced today that Barrie Colts co-captain Cole Beaudoin<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/em> has been named a finalist for the William Hanley Trophy<\/span><\/span><\/strong>, presented annually to the league\u2019s Most Sportsmanlike Player as voted by the League\u2019s General Managers.<\/p>\n

Beaudoin earns the recognition following a dominant 2025\u201326 regular season that combined elite offensive production with consistency, discipline, and a commitment to detail in all three zones. The Kanata, Ontario native appeared in 54 games, recording 89 points (33 goals, 56 assists) while posting a 1.65 points-per-game average\u2014ranking among the league\u2019s top performers.<\/p>\n

Among the OHL\u2019s most impactful players at even strength, Beaudoin produced at a 1.13 points-per-game rate at five-on-five, underscoring his ability to drive play without reliance on special teams. He recorded 10 game-winning goals, added two short-handed tallies, and led the Colts with 23 power-play assists while finishing the season with a +40 rating.<\/p>\n

A physically imposing presence at six-foot-two and 211 pounds, Beaudoin combined his offensive output with a disciplined approach, recording just 29 penalty minutes across the season. His 55.4 percent success rate in the faceoff circle further reinforced his reliability in all situations, while his consistent deployment against top opposition highlighted his two-way effectiveness.<\/p>\n

The Barrie Colts delivered a composed and opportunistic performance on the road, earning a 5-2 victory over the Niagara IceDogs in Game 3 of their first-round series.<\/p>\n

Brad Gardiner led the way with a three-point night, recording a goal and two assists, while Ben Wilmott matched the effort with a goal and two helpers. The duo powered Barrie\u2019s offense and earned first and second star honours for their efforts.<\/p>\n

The Colts opened the scoring at 13:50 of the first period, as Brad Gardiner<\/strong><\/em> netted his second of the postseason off a feed from Wilmott. Niagara responded just 28 seconds later, but Barrie answered again before the period closed. Emil Hemming<\/strong> <\/em>restored the Colts\u2019 lead at 15:51, finishing a play set up by Cole Beaudoin and Mason Zebeski to make it 2-1 after 20 minutes.<\/p>\n

Niagara evened the game midway through the second period, as Riley Patterson found the back of the net at 9:37. However, Barrie\u2019s special teams proved to be the difference-maker late in the frame.<\/p>\n

On the power play, Kashawn Aitcheson<\/strong><\/em> scored the game-winning goal, converting on a setup from Gardiner and Wilmott to give the Colts a 3-2 lead heading into the third period.<\/p>\n

Barrie extended its advantage early in the final frame, as Joe Salandra<\/strong><\/em> capitalized on another power play opportunity just 1:16 in. With assists from Parker von Richter and Gardiner, the goal pushed the Colts\u2019 lead to 4-2 and firmly shifted momentum in their favour.<\/p>\n

From there, Barrie managed the game effectively, limiting Niagara\u2019s opportunities and maintaining control down the stretch. Ben Wilmott<\/strong><\/em> sealed the win with an empty-net goal late in the third, capping off a strong all-around performance.<\/p>\n

The Colts will look to build on this effort on Thursday in Game 4 back in Niagara.<\/p>\n

Game 1 saw Barrie establish control early, defeating the Niagara IceDogs with a full team effort backed by strong offensive production and structured play. The Colts outshot Niagara 39\u201324, dictating pace and generating consistent pressure throughout the night.<\/p>\n

Captain Cole Beaudoin<\/strong><\/em> opened the scoring on the power play, setting the tone early with assists from Cole Emerton and Ben Wilmott. Barrie continued to build momentum with goals from Parker von Richter <\/strong><\/em>and Teague Vader<\/strong><\/em>, extending their lead through contributions across the lineup. From puck drop, Barrie established a noticeably different pace than Game 1, bringing energy, physicality, and a relentless forecheck. That early push paid off just 3:05 into the opening period, when Emil Hemming drove the puck wide and put it on net, with Cole Beaudoin crashing the crease to bury the rebound for his second goal of the series and a 1\u20130 lead.<\/p>\n

The Colts continued to dictate play throughout the first, generating consistent offensive zone time and limiting Niagara\u2019s looks.
