The Barrie Colts announced today that Blake Ricci<\/strong><\/em> has joined the organization as Assistant General Manager, effective immediately.<\/p>\n

Ricci arrives in Barrie after serving as General Manager of the Toronto Patriots of the Ontario Junior Hockey League (OJHL), where he helped build the club into a Buckland Cup champion during the 2025-26 season. A Toronto native, Ricci brings a strong track record of team-building, player development, and hockey operations experience to his new role with the Colts.<\/p>\n

He will work closely with President of Hockey Operations John Winstanley and Vice President and General Manager Marty Williamson as part of the Colts’ hockey operations leadership group as the organization continues to build toward long-term, sustained success both on and off the ice.<\/p>\n

The Barrie Colts of the Ontario Hockey League announced today that Dave Belitski is stepping away from his role as Director of Goaltending, a position he held from 2021 to 2026, to focus on his family and business.<\/p>\n

“I would like to thank Howie Campbell and Marty Williamson, and the entire Barrie Colts organization for five incredible years,” said Belitski. “It’s been an incredibly difficult decision to step away, but I wish the Colts nothing but success. I can’t wait to get back to the arena and watch as a fan and cheer them on.”<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The Colts thank Belitski for his dedication to the organization’s goaltending development over the past five seasons and wish him nothing but the best in his future endeavours.<\/p>\n

The Barrie Colts of the Ontario Hockey League announced today that the organization have signed Dylan Smoskowitz<\/strong><\/em> and Marty Williamson<\/strong><\/em> to contract extensions, ensuring both will continue to lead the hockey operations department for years to come.<\/p>\n

President of Hockey Operations John Winstanley<\/strong><\/em> made the announcement, citing the stability and continuity both leaders have brought to the organization.<\/p>\n

“We are extremely excited to announce the extensions of our Head Coach Dylan Smoskowitz<\/strong> as well as Vice President and General Manager Marty Williamson<\/strong>,” said Winstanley. “Both have played an important role in establishing the culture, standards, and direction of our hockey program, and we believe strongly in their ability to continue moving this organization forward. Stability and continuity are important as we build for sustained success,” Winstanley continued. “We want our players, staff, and fans to know that we have a clear vision for where we are going, and these two individuals are a major part of that vision. We have a tremendous amount of confidence in their leadership, their commitment to our players, and their ability to build a winning environment both on and off the ice.”<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Smoskowitz and Williamson have been fixtures of the Colts organization in recent years. Smoskowitz, a former Colts forward from 2010 to 2012, rejoined the club as Assistant Coach in 2021 before being promoted to Head Coach in 2025. Williamson, who first coached the Colts from 2004 to 2010, returned to the organization in 2020 as General Manager and Head Coach before transitioning to his current role as Vice President and General Manager in 2025.<\/p>\n

“We are excited about what is ahead and believe this is another important step in building an organization that our players, families, fans, and community can be proud of.”<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The Barrie Colts organization is proud to recognize the strong Colts presence at this year’s Boots and Hearts Barn Burner Charity Hockey Game, held August 6 at Sadlon Arena. The 2026 edition of the annual event set a new fundraising benchmark, generating $702,000 in support of local charities and surpassing last year’s total of just over $605,000. Now in its 18th year, the Barn Burner has become one of Barrie’s signature community events, pairing NHL and PWHL talent with hometown heroes for a night of hockey, live music, and giving back.<\/p>\n

On the ice, the Colts were represented by Aaron Ekblad<\/strong>, a two-time Stanley Cup champion and Colts alumnus who served as captain of Team Denim; Andrew Mangiapane<\/strong>, who spent his junior career with the Colts before going on to an NHL career now with the Chicago Blackhawks and laced up alongside his former teammates; Dylan Smoskowitz<\/strong>, Barrie’s current head coach who also skated in the OHL for Barrie earlier in his career and led the Colts to the OHL Championship Series in his first season behind the bench; Cole Beaudoin<\/strong>, last year’s co-captain who led the entire OHL in scoring this past season; and Lucas Matheson<\/strong>, a Barrie hometown product and the Colts’ first-round pick in the 2026 OHL Priority Selection, making an early appearance in Colts colours in front of the home crowd. Behind the bench was Kyle Clifford<\/strong>, a Colts alumnus and two-time Stanley Cup champion whose No. 13 was retired by the club in 2025, coaching for the night after wrapping a 15-year professional career.<\/p>\n

Their participation continued a tradition of Colts showing up for the Barn Burner, joining the event’s broader lineup of NHL and PWHL stars<\/p>\n

Hosted by Barrie Mayor Alex Nuttall<\/strong> and presented in partnership with the Boots and Hearts Music Festival<\/strong>\u00a0\u2014 the Barn Burner has now raised close to $3 million for local causes since its inception. This year’s proceeds will benefit organizations including the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre (RVH) Foundation<\/strong>, the John Tavares Foundation<\/strong>, PIE Education, local Rotary clubs, Easter Seals<\/strong>, and other community initiatives serving the Barrie region. For an organization built on family and community, it was a genuine pleasure to see so many familiar faces back on home ice, giving their time to a cause that means so much to Barrie.<\/p>\n

The Barrie Colts announced today that John Winstanley<\/strong><\/em> will join the organization as President of Hockey Operations<\/strong>, effective ahead of the upcoming season.<\/p>\n

Winstanley brings extensive hockey management experience to Barrie, including several years as a General Manager within the Ontario Hockey League. He also spent time with the Toronto Junior Canadians of the Greater Toronto Hockey League (GTHL), and has served in an executive capacity with the GTHL itself, giving him a well-rounded background in player development, scouting, and organizational leadership at both the junior and major junior levels.<\/p>\n

Winstanley shared the following remarks on joining the organization:<\/p>\n

The Barrie Colts have traded goaltender Ben Hrebik<\/strong><\/em> to the Guelph Storm, the club announced today.<\/p>\n

Hrebik recently informed the organization that he has elected not to attend his committed NCAA program and will instead continue his career in the Ontario Hockey League. In light of that decision, the Colts worked to facilitate a trade that places him with a competitive Guelph Storm club positioned to contend for both the OHL Championship and a Memorial Cup<\/p>\n

“Ben has been a great teammate and a hard worker for us, and we’re grateful for everything he brought to this room,” said Colts General Manager Marty Williamson<\/strong><\/em>. “Guelph is a great fit for him, and knowing what he’s capable of, we think he’s going to make some noise in that Memorial Cup race. The transaction opens a new chapter for one of the OHL’s most storied franchises \u2014 and closes, gently, one of its most personal ones. For 21 seasons, Howie Campbell<\/strong><\/em> has been the heartbeat of the Barrie Colts: the man who showed up early, stayed late, and treated a hockey team like family. That chapter isn’t ending so much as passing to new hands. Campbell will remain a shareholder in the organization and continue as a senior advisor to Careri, ensuring the values he built the franchise on are carried forward.<\/p>\n

“It was a very hard decision for me and my family, but after 21 seasons I feel like the time is right to take a step back, spend more time with them, while ensuring that the future of the team and the company is in good hands,” said Howie Campbell. “Mr. Careri is a very successful and seasoned entrepreneur and businessman who shares my passion for hockey and for bringing a championship to the City of Barrie. Careri also spoke with enthusiasm about Barrie’s vibrant sports culture, and about the opportunity to partner with the city on future enhancements to Sadlon Arena \u2014 a modernization he sees as a catalyst for the franchise’s long-term growth, and for the community that has rallied around it for three decades.<\/p>\n

Founded as an OHL expansion franchise in 1995, the Barrie Colts have grown into one of the Canadian Hockey League’s most recognized organizations. The team captured the J. Ross Robertson Cup as OHL champions in 2000 and has sent numerous players on to NHL and professional hockey careers. Through it all, the constant has been a community that has embraced the Colts as its own \u2014 and an ownership, past and future, committed to keeping it that way.<\/p>\n

The Barrie Colts are inviting elementary and secondary schools across Simcoe County to take part in the 2026-27 Adopt A School program, one of the organization’s longest-running community fundraising initiatives.<\/p>\n

With 34 home games on the schedule this season, there are plenty of opportunities for schools to host a designated “school night” at Sadlon Arena \u2014 a night where students, staff, and families can come out to cheer on the Colts while raising money for their own school community.<\/p>\n
