Feb. 26/25 at Guelph: Highlights & Recap
The Colts travelled to Guelph Wednesday evening to begin their week of games. Dalyn Wakely was out of the Colts lineup pending a league suspension while Jaiden Newton served the first of his two-game suspension for exceeding the league fighting rule.
It took until the second period for a team to find the scoresheet with Riley Patterson being on the receiving end of a bounce to capitalize on his 23rd goal of the season. Guelph would storm back and find two goals to solve Ben Hrebik and gain their first lead of the night. In his first game back from suspension, Owen Van Steensel snuck away on a breakaway with less than three minutes remaining in the second period to tie the game back up.
Guelph would open up the third with an early goal but a pair of Vancouver Canucks prospects stepped up. Anthony Romani would first find the scoresheet with his quick release while Riley Patterson took advantage of the powerplay with a deflection to give the Colts a 4-3 lead. With a powerplay and net empty at the end of the third period, the Storm would rally and score with 4.4 seconds left to send it to overtime.
Ben Hrebik continued his ways of always coming up big in the big moments and shut the door on several Guelph scoring opportunities in overtime. It took a shootout to decide Wednesday’s night fate. With their backs against the wall, Romani stepped up and scored in the shootout to keep the Colts’ hopes alive. With a save at the other end from Ben Hrebik, Utah Hockey Club prospect Cole Beaudoin went down and potted the game-winner against his dad’s former junior team and sealed the victory.
