Colts Tanks Run Dry in Loss to 67’s
Cedrick Andree would record the shutout as the Barrie Colts surrendered a 6-0 loss to the league leading Ottawa 67’s.
As if it weren’t already a tough match up versus CHL’s 2nd ranked team, the Colts were playing their third game in three nights while the 67’s were just starting their own week allowing them to push their win streak to five.
Coming off a big win Friday night in Kitchener to snap a five game losing the skid, the Colts were right back at it up against the East’s, Ottawa 67’s. Going to battle for the 2nd time in a week, the Colts were able to steal a point while in the nations capital last Saturday, but it was a different story as the boys were simply out of gas on this night.
The Colts would survive the 67’s onslaught throughout the opening frame, but with just 43 seconds remaining Joseph Garreffa broke the ice. After his cross ice pass was blocked the puck came right back to him to bang the first goal of the game.
Just over six minutes into the second Jack Quinn increased the deficit to two. Arturs Silovs made two saves from the left side, but the last pad save squeaked out front for Quinn to jam in.
Past the midway point of the second and just as the 67’s would kill off another penalty the visitors increased the lead to three. It was the other Clarke, brother Graeham finished off the passing play to make it 3-0.
Early in the third with the 67’s on the powerplay they made it 4-0. Austen Keating slid a pass across to Marco Rossi who rang it off the post, but the puck deflected right back at Keating going off him and into the net.
Five minutes later Cameron Tolnai and Rossi would add another pair a minute apart giving the 67’s a commanding 6-0 lead with fifteen minutes still left to play.
Silovs would finish the night making 31 saves in the loss as the 67’s would skate away with the victory.
The Colts now get a much needed break. They’ll get back at it Wednesday night in Owen Sound, before their next home game Saturday March 14th versus the North Battalion.
