Team Blue Defeats Team White in 2016 Development Camp
This weekend, the Barrie Colts held their annual rookie development camp at Allandale Recreation Centre in Barrie. The camp was made up of Colts draft picks from 2015 and 2016, along with some free agents. With the Barrie Colts coaching staff and management in attendance, players were looking to make a good impression to earn an invite to main camp later this summer.
Saturday, May 14th saw both Team Blue and Team White get on the ice for an hour long practice, followed by fitness testing. On Sunday, May 15th, both teams faced off for an intersquad game. The game consisted of two 40 minute periods, allowing for a flood in between.
After 40 minutes, Team Blue held a 3-0 lead and were putting plenty of pressure on Team White. The Colts 2016 2nd and 3rd overall picks, Jack McBain and Mathew MacDougall each notched a goal and an assist in the first half of the game. In a quick paced game, Team White turned it around in the second half, generating some quality chances. It would be the Colts 2016 4th round pack, Curtis Douglass, who would put a goal home for Team White.
Team Blue would ultimately fend off a Team White comeback, and they would take the game 4-1.
Main camp will be taking place at the end of August.
