Losing Streak Extends to 3 as Colts lose 5-2 to Sarnia
Sarnia took the lead early and never looked back as they handle the Colts easily in a 5-2 victory.
Penalties have seemed to be an issue early on this season for Barrie, and early in the first period it proved costly. Nikita Korostolev buried a cross-ice feed past David Ovsjannikov to give the Sting a 1-0 lead. Jordan Kyrou picked up the lone assist.
At the 9:16 mark of the first, Barrie was able to strike as Jason Wilms knocked a puck out of mid air and netted his second of the season. Joey Keane recorded his first point of his OHL career on the goal.
The bounces continued to go the Stings way as Ryan Mcgregor took advantage of a shot that was blocked and landed right onto his stick and he made no mistake putting it home.
Sarnia kept the pressure on and were rewarded, with just over a minute remaining in the period Jaden Lindo received a long stretch pass from Kelton Hatcher and snapped home his 4th goal of the season.
Early in the 2nd, it was more Sarnia. Jordan Enrst took a shot from a fairly sharp angle and went top corner on Ovsjannikov to put the Sting up 4-1.
Barrie was able to put together some pressure but Justin Fazio continued his strong play in the game. Fazio stopped 28 of the 30 shots he faced.
Midway through the period Anthony Salinitri put Sarnia up by 4 as he tipped in a point shot past Christian Propp who came in relief of Ovsjannikov for the second straight night.
With just under 3 minutes to go in the period the Colts finally got one past Fazio. Anthony Stefano and Cordell James push their way to a goal making it a 5-2 game. Stefano got credit for the goal that shrunk the lead to 3.
The third period began with Sarnia on a PP and grew to a 5 on 3. They were peppering Propp but weren’t able to beat the rookie netminder as he played strong in relief, stopping 16 of the 17 shots he faced.
Barrie wasn’t able to do much else the rest of the game as they were outmatched on this night losing 5–2 to Sarnia.
Colts drop to 3-5-1-0 on the year, while Sarnia improves to a league best 7-2-1-0.
Barrie is next in action tomorrow, taking on the Flint Firebirds south of the border as they look to grab a victory before the weekend is over.
