Colts Take it to IceDogs in 6-2 Victory

For their second win of the pre-season, the Barrie Colts once again came out victorious against the Niagara IceDogs. With scoring help coming from both young and old players, the Colts were able to grab an early lead and stand strong defensively throughout the game.

Early in the first period, the Colts would get on the board with a tally from Adrian Carbonara, for his second goal of the pre-season. Before the end of the first period, the Colts would follow that up with three more goals.

Before the halfway mark of the first period, Cordell James would score while on the power play. The goal was his second of the pre-season and was assisted by Roy Radke and Kade Landry.

With less than five minutes to play in the opening frame, Kade Landry would earn his second point of the night on the power play when he put home his second goal of the pre-season to make it 3-0 for the Colts. Tom Hedberg and Zachary Magwood assisted on Landry’s goal.

The Colts would leave the first period with a 4-0 lead as Kyle Heitzner put his team leading third goal of the pre-season past IceDogs net minder, Dhillon Stephen with 17 seconds remaining. Despite a 4-0 lead, the Colts were outshot 9-5 in the first 20 minutes.

The second period would see the Colts outshoot the IceDogs 10-3, while going up 5-0 after a power play tally from Curtis Douglas. Douglas, making his first start in a Colts uniform, would score the lone goal of the period with nearly two minutes left, while Jason Willms and Tom Hedberg grabbed the assists on the goal.

The IceDogs would attempt to crawl back in the third period, but wouldn’t be able to gain much traction. Only 2:41 into the final period, the IceDogs would score off a goal from Oliver Castleman, with Akil Thomas assisting the goal. Then, with less than 9 minutes to play, the IceDogs would close the gap to 5-2 when Matthew Philip scored his first goal of the pre-season, while Danial Singer and Oliver Castleman earned the assists on the goal.

That would be as close as the IceDogs would come though, as the Colts extended their lead to 6-2 with a late power play goal from Cordell James. James’ second of the game was assisted by Christopher Cameron and Tyler Tucker.

The Colts went 4 for 9 on their power play chances throughout the night, and shut the door on all four power play chances for the IceDogs. In goal for the Colts, David Ovsjannikov shut the door on 19 of the 21 shots he faced, while the Colts took 29 shots on the IceDogs.
