COLTS TAKE A BITE OUT OF THE WOLVES WITH A 5 – 2 VICTORY
The Barrie Colts looked to get back in the win column as the Sudbury Wolves were in town tonight.
A checking from behind penalty would cost the Barrie Colts early on in this game. With a power play opportunity, Justin Sefton would put his team up 1 – 0 at 5:10 in the first period. Mathew Campagna and Frand Corrado would pick up the assists. Sudbury would capitalize again, when Nicholas Baptiste made it two nothing for the Wolves with just 23 seconds left to play in the opening frame. Sudbury would take a 2 – 0 lead into the second period.
After a rough start, the Barrie Colts would answer in the second period. Josh MacDonald cut the lead to 2 – 1 with a wrist shot that beat Taylor Dupuis blocker side at 1:11. Steven Beyers picked up the lone assist. Just a few minutes later, Anthony Camara would tie the game at two on the power play. Camara parked himself out in front of the net, where he tipped home a point shot from Mark Scheifele. Ryan O’Connor also got an assist. Barrie would capitalize again with their third straight unanswered goal at 15:31 of the second. Ryan O’Connor gave his team their first lead of the game on a slap shot from the point, as goaltender Taylor Dupuis was caught out of position after a 2 on 1.
The Barrie Colts came out in the third period right where they left off. Captain Ryan O’Connor led the way for his team, adding his second goal of the night. Another blast from the point found it’s way in to give the Colts a 4 – 2 lead. Tyson Fawcett and Steven Beyers added the assists. At 8:55 on the power play, O’Connor would complete his first career hat trick when he rifled home another shot from the point. The goal would seal the 5 – 2 victory for Barrie. Steven Beyers had 3 assists on the night, while Alex Fotinos made 24 saves for his fifth win of the season. The story of the game was Barrie Colts captain Ryan O’Connor, who notched 3 goals and 1 assist to claim 1st star honors.
