Colts’ Powerplay Struggles Prove Costly in 4-2 Loss to Oshawa
Barrie’s powerplay struggles send them home with a 4-2 loss to the Generals.
Oshawa was able to continue their winning ways on home ice with the 4-2 victory, improving their home record to 3-0.
In the first it was Barrie who got things started thanks to Jason Wilms’ first career goal just over the midway point of the period. Wilms was able to strip a defender and went five hole on Jeremy Brodeur of Oshawa.
The lead was short lived, as five minutes later the Generals were able to counter with a first of their own. Serron Noel netted his first career OHL goal from Domenic Commisso.
The Gens followed that goal with another one just 38 seconds later. Alex Di Carlo scored his first goal as a member of Oshawa and put the Gens up 2-1 despite being outplayed in the first period.
The first period was a penalty filled affair, and in the second, the trend continued. Neither team however was able to take advantage of the special team opportunities. The Colts penalty kill has definitely been one of their strongest parts of their game early in the season and they displayed that through 40 minutes of play.
After finally getting his first goal of the season on an empty net on Saturday against Kitchener, Adrian Carbonara was able to get his 2nd today. The 19 year old forward from Maple, ON was able to continue the scoring, snapping one top corner tying the game at two. Lucas Chiodo and Anthony Stefano assisted on the tying goal.
Early in the 3rd Di Carlo of the Generals hit Aidan Brown from behind, setting up the Colts with a 5-minute man advantage. Barrie was unable to get anything going and yet another chance went by the wayside.
It was Oshawa who got the scoring started in the 3rd period. Mitchell Vande Sompel stepped into a shot and absolutely buried one to give the Generals the lead back.
Less than a minute later, the boys in blue were caught with too many men on the ice and it proved costly. Vande Sompel was rewarded again as he threw one on net to make it 4-2.
The Colts did get a 5 on 3 shortly after, but were unable to capitalize once again as they were a combined 0/11 with the man advantage in the loss.
Barrie is back in action as they play the first chapter of the hwy 26 rivalry, welcoming the Owen Sound Attack to the Barrie Molson Centre.
