Attack shut down the Colts
Owen Sound’s Nick Suzuki’s goal in the second proved to be the winner in a 5-0 victory over the Barrie Colts.
In the first period it was the Attack who came out strong, outshooting the Colts at one point by 11-2. However, Barrie was able to put together a much stronger second half of the period led by the hard fore-checking of forward Adrian Carbonara. Owen Sound had the lone powerplay in the first but they were unsuccessful in a scoreless frame.
It was a much better start to the 2nd period for Barrie as they had numerous chances but were unable to solve Michael McNiven. First it was Roy Radke with a glorious opportunity as he stepped out front and tried to go glove side but was denied. Then rookie Kyle Heitzner who had 4 goals in the preseason, couldn’t net his first of the year, as he was stopped point blank.
The Attack however, were rewarded late, despite being outshot 18-9 in the 2nd. First it was Nick Suzuki scoring his 4th of the season off a turnover in the Colts zone making it 1-0.
Just seconds later Maxim Sushko lit the lamp with his 2nd of the campaign. Suzuki picked up the lone assist on the goal.
Before the buzzer could sound our highway 26 rivals struck again, this time it was Petrus Palmu picking up his 7th goal of the season assisted from Markus Phillips and Ethan Szypula as the Attack took a comfortable 3-0 lead into the break.
Barrie would start the 3rd period shorthanded, but had the best opportunity as Lucas Chiodo was sprung in all-alone on McNiven, but nothing was bouncing Barrie’s way on this night as he was stopped.
On a 5 on 3, Owen Sound didn’t let up as Sushko scored his 2nd of the night backhanding one past Christian Propp, who relieved David Ovsjannikov to begin the 3rd period, building the lead up to 4.
Zach Roberts would add a late one to cap a 5-0 victory for Owen Sound.
Colts are next in action tomorrow night in Sarnia as they take on the Sting, before wrapping up the weekend in Flint on Saturday.
