The Barrie Colts Have Acquired Michael Tang from the Niagara IceDogs
The Barrie Colts have acquired forward Michael Tang from the Niagara IceDogs in exchange for Oshawa’s fifth-round selection in the 2028 OHL Priority Selection that was acquired by Barrie just yesterday.
Tang, 17, was originally selected by Niagara in the fourth round, 78th overall, in the 2025 OHL Priority Selection. The New York native spent the 2025-26 season competing in the USHL with the Madison Capitols.
In 57 regular-season games with the Capitols, Tang recorded 9 goals and 19 assists for 28 points. He also appeared in 11 USHL playoff games, recording one goal and three assists.
Tang’s 2025-26 season also included international experience with the United States. He represented Team USA at the 2025 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge, recording 1 goal in 4 games, and was later selected to represent the United States at the 2026 Hlinka Gretzky Cup.
Prior to joining the USHL, Tang developed with the Toronto Titans program. During the 2024-25 season, he recorded 52 goals and 76 assists for 128 points in 74 games with the Titans U16 AAA team. He also registered 3 goals and 6 assists in 6 games at the 2025 OHL Cup.
The right-shot forward is listed at 6’1″ and 170 Ibs and has been described by previous coaches and scouts as a skilled, intelligent and versatile offensive player capable of playing all three forward positions.
“Michael’s offensive talent is intriguing and exciting,” Colts General Manager, Marty Williamson says. “He played in the USHL last year against older players and is ready to make an impact in the OHL.”
After spending last season developing in the USHL and gaining experience on the international stage, Tang will now make the transition to the OHL and join the Colts for the 2026-27 season.
The Barrie Colts welcome Michael Tang to the organization and look forward to seeing him in Colts colours!
Welcome Tanger!
