Ottawa Blanks Barrie 2-0
The Ottawa 67’s controlled the play from beginning to end in a 2-0 win over the Barrie Colts, Saturday afternoon in Ottawa.
Saturday afternoon featured a matchup against the OHL top team in terms of points. The Colts were in the nations capital taking on the Ottawa 67’s.
In the first period the 67’s showed why they are one of the favourites to win the Ontario Hockey League this year as they hemmed the Colts in their own zone for the first couple minutes of the game.
It was local boy, Kai Edmonds who got the start in net for Barrie as he was peppered with shots in the early going and was able to keep the home club off the board with 11 saves through a scoreless first twenty minutes of play.
The second period was more of the same for Ottawa as they dominated the play once again. It also seemed like a replay for Edmonds as well though as he was sharp, making big stop after big stop.
Late in the frame, the 67’s would finally solve the Carlsbad Springs, ON native on a shot from Noel Hoefenmayer that squeaked through to open the scoring.
Barrie was only able to get seven shots on goal as Ottawa outshot the Colts 26-11 through forty minutes, but remained a close game.
In the third period Barrie would still remain off the board, but pulled Edmonds with around two minutes left in the period but weren’t able to find the back of the net.
Tye Felhaber sealed the win with an empty netter improving on their league best record.
Despite picking up the loss Kai Edmonds stood on his head, making 29 saves on 30 shots.
Barrie will finish off their road trip with a game in Kingston tomorrow afternoon at 2pm.
