IceDogs Roll to 6-2 Win Over Colts
The Niagara IceDogs controlled the game from beginning to end with a five goal outburst in the first period en route to a 6-2 thumping of the Barrie Colts on Friday night.
It was a tilt against the Niagara IceDogs that saw them welcome a couple new faces to the lineup for the first time since their trade with the Kingston Frontenacs on Tuesday morning. Jason Robertson and Jacob Pacquette were in the lineup and both found the scoresheet.
It was a flurry of Niagara goals that got things started. Just nineteen seconds into the game Akil Thomas scored his 9th of the season, with Robertson collecting his first point with an assist on the games opening marker.
Just before the six minute mark they would extend their lead with a goal from Kyen Sopa, which had Pacquette also record his first point with an assist.
After the Dogs made it 3-0 on a goal by Jonathan Schaefer, Colts Chris Cameron laid a huge body check in front of the Barrie net that looked to be clean, but he was tossed from the game giving Niagara the man advantage for five minutes.
They would capitalize twice with goals from Philip Tomasino and Kirill Maksimov giving them a 5-0 lead after twenty minutes of play.
The second period would be a lot more quiet with just the one goal being credited to Maksimov for his 2nd of the night.
In the third period the Colts would break the shutout with goals by Aidan Brown and Jacob Tortora, but that’s as close to a victory as they got as the Dogs were just too much to handle on this night winning 6-2.
Not much time to dwell on this one as the boys finish off a three in three tomorrow night at home against the Guelph Storm. Barrie will be unveiling their 3rd jerseys for the first time this season, if you haven’t already bought your tickets, don’t waste anymore time as they are going fast.
