Attack Too Much to Handle for Colts in 2nd Preseason Contest
Daylon Groulx and Griffin Wilson would each pot a pair of goals to lead the Owen Sound Attack to a 6-4 victory Monday evening in the annual Labour Day matchup.
The Colts 2nd exhibition game on the preseason schedule would see the first visit of the year from the highway 26 rivals, a game that would favour the visiting squad for much of the evening.
2018 CHL Import pick, goaltender Maksim Zhukov would make his Colts debut making 27 saves in the loss.
After the Colts would successfully kill off the first penalty of the game, the play would shift quickly to the opposing end and the Colts would get on the board first.
At 9:31 Ryan Suzuki would strike with a snap shot from the right circle to open up the scoring. Assists going to Ben Hawerchuk and Jaden Peca.
Just over two minutes later the Attack would find their way past Zhukov to knot things up. With a shot coming from the point, Groulx would pick up the initial rebound sliding it under the pad to make it 1-1.
With the seconds winding down on the clock ready for the intermission, the Attack would sneak one more. Wilson would throw a harmless dump into the corner. The bounce coming directly in front of Zhukov and under his stick leaving a wide-open cage to Chase Campbell to take the 2-1 lead.
Keeping the pedal down into the middle frame at 2:15 Jackson Doherty would collect a pass into the slot and bury a shot over Zhukov’s glove to go up by two.
The Colts would get one back with a goal from Jason Willms, but the celebration would be short lived as Owen Sound would add two more off the sticks of Groulx and Wilson to round out the second period.
Wilson would build on the Owen Sound lead and Suzuki would pickup his second of the night for the Colts late in the third with a another from Nathan Allensen in the dyer seconds of the game, but that would be as close as the Colts would get on the night.
The Colts will continue their preseason schedule tomorrow night at the Eddie Bush Memorial Arena in Collingwood for a 6:00pm matchup with Sudbury Wolves.
