BARRIE, ONTARIO.<\/strong> Looking to bounce back following an overtime defeat in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Finals, the Brantford Bulldogs returned to Sadlon Arena in Barrie on Saturday night for Game 6 and another opportunity to capture the Bobby Orr Trophy and punch their ticket to the OHL Finals.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The Bulldogs got out on the front foot from the start of the game, peppering 19 shots to Ben Hrebik in the first period and earning the game\u2019s opening goal at 6:25. Caleb Malhotra caught down a clearing attempt from the Barrie zone and made a perfect backhand pass through traffic to Cooper Dennis in front of the Colts goal where Dennis pulled the puck to his backhand and roofed it for his 5th<\/sup> of the playoffs giving the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead. The Bulldogs continued to mount chances, with a Jake O\u2019Brien breakaway denied by the right and a Caleb Malhotra shorthanded breakaway denied by the left pad of Ben Hrebik. Ryerson Leenders stopped all 9 he faced in the opening period, with his finest coming on the Colts first shot denying a doorstep tip on a left point drive to keep the Bulldogs ahead 1-0 at the time, a lead they would take to the second period.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The second period was a back-and-forth frame that began with the Colts evening the score, though in controversial fashion at 2:41. Kashawn Aitcheson sent a shot to the front of the Bulldogs net that was held off by Ryerson Leenders but contact with Carter Lowe knocked Leenders mask off while the puck bounced to Jaiden Newton. Despite the Bulldogs goaltender being left without his mask, Newton\u2019s shot was deemed a goal for his 2nd<\/sup> of the post-season tying the game 1-1. The Bulldogs took the lead back less than two minutes later. Dylan Tsherna laid the puck to the left point for Owen Protz who fired a shot toward the front of the net where it was tipped by Ryder Boulton for his 1st<\/sup> of the playoffs at 4:21 and a 2-1 Bulldogs lead. The Dogs doubled the advantage at 13:10, with Owen Protz finding Jake O\u2019Brien on a long out of the defensive zone to the right-wing side that the captain carried into the offensive end and made no mistake rifling a shot over Hrebik\u2019s shoulder to give the Bulldogs a 3-1 lead. The Colts cut back into the lead on a lucky bounce, after a Ben Wilmott shot was deflected off back glass, it landed at the side of the Bulldogs net for Carter Lowe who was able to quickly collect and fire, surprising Ryerson Leenders to pull the game to 3-2 at 18:19. Just moments later, Jake O\u2019Brien dangled through three Colts defenders before outwaiting Ben Hrebik and rolling the puck under the Colts\u2019 netminder\u2019s pad and over the goal line. The puck was quickly scrambled back under Hrebik and waved off, shockingly, at ice level, with the officials deeming the video review non-conclusive to keep the Bulldogs lead 3-2 heading to the locker rooms through 40 minutes.<\/p>\n

The third period saw the Colts continue to battle in the series, earning an equalizer 9:54 as a play that started with Kashawn Aitcheson crashing the net ended with Jaiden Newton picking a loose puck over Ryerson Leenders to tie the game 3-3. The Bulldogs mounted pressure late but a brilliant split save from Ben Hrebik as he went left to right to deny Jake O\u2019Brien from the left circle kept the series alive, forcing overtime for the second straight game.<\/p>\n

Gabriel Frasca scored just moments into the overtime session but for the second time on the night a Bulldogs goal is waived off. Though Ben Hrebik moved past the top of his paint and initiated contact with the Bulldogs forward, the goal was waived off on review. That would prove momentous for the Colts who got the winner minutes later with Mason Zebeski collecting a puck behind the Bulldogs defense, tucked it through Leenders to force a Game 7.<\/p>\n

The Brantford Bulldogs entered Thursday night a win away from advancing to the OHL Championship series but dropped a 4\u20133 overtime decision to the Barrie Colts in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Championship on April 30 at the TD Civic Centre.<\/p>\n

The Bulldogs twice held the lead and answered back in the third period, but the Colts struck in overtime to extend the series.<\/p>\n

Malhotra Opens the Scoring<\/h3>\n

Brantford got on the board first at 8:02 of the opening period.<\/p>\n

A clean breakout started with Ben Danford<\/strong>, who moved the puck D-to-D to Edison Engle<\/strong>. Engle quickly transitioned it forward to Caleb Malhotra<\/strong>, who carried down the left side over the Barrie blue line and hammered a slapshot from the top of the left circle through the five-hole of Ben Hrebik to make it 1\u20130.<\/p>\n

Colts Even It Up<\/h3>\n

Barrie responded on the power play at 5:44 of the second.<\/p>\n

Working around the zone, Cole Beaudoin<\/strong> fed Parker von Richter<\/strong> at the point, who slid the puck to Emil Hemming<\/strong> in the right circle. Hemming\u2019s shot struck the crossbar, hit Ryerson Leenders<\/strong> in the back, and bounced over the line to tie the game 1\u20131.<\/p>\n

Bulldogs Answer Back<\/h3>\n

The Bulldogs regained the lead at 11:41 on the man advantage.<\/p>\n

Adam Jiricek<\/strong> delivered a behind-the-back pass to Jake O\u2019Brien<\/strong>, whose one-timer was stopped. The rebound dropped in front where Marek Vanacker<\/strong> buried it from the crease to restore a 2\u20131 Brantford lead.<\/p>\n

Barrie Pushes Ahead<\/h3>\n

The Colts tied the game at 8:42 of the third period.<\/p>\n

From the right circle, Kashawn Aitcheson<\/strong> sent a cross-ice pass to William Schneid<\/strong>, who fired a one-timer from the left circle just inside the post to make it 2\u20132.<\/p>\n

Barrie then took its first lead at 10:43.<\/p>\n

Schneid<\/strong> sent Jaiden Newton<\/strong> through neutral ice. Crossing the Bulldogs blue line, Newton used a defender as a screen and snapped a shot over Leenders\u2019 glove to give the Colts a 3\u20132 advantage.<\/p>\n

Malhotra Delivers Again<\/h3>\n

The Bulldogs answered right back at 11:19.<\/p>\n

Adam Jiricek<\/strong> moved the puck from the right point across to Owen Protz<\/strong>, who stepped into the left circle and fired a shot that was blocked. The puck dropped into the crease where Caleb Malhotra<\/strong> batted it home for his second of the night, tying the game 3\u20133.<\/p>\n

Overtime Decider<\/h3>\n

The Colts ended it at 13:40 of overtime.<\/p>\n

Following extended pressure in the Bulldogs zone, Brantford was unable to clear. Calvin Crombie<\/strong> centered the puck to the right circle for Brad Gardiner<\/strong>, who fired it past Leenders to secure the 4\u20133 victory.<\/p>\n

      BARRIE, ONTARIO.<\/strong> Following their victory in Game 3 to take back home ice advantage in their Eastern Conference Final, the Brantford Bulldogs entered Game 4 on Thursday night at Sadlon Arena looking for much the same effort as they looked to take a 3-1 stranglehold on the series.<\/p>\n

       <\/p>\n

      The Bulldogs got on the front foot early in the game, at 4:41, Edison Engle wrapped the puck around the end boards where Caleb Malhotra forced an end wall scrum in the offensive zone with multiple Colts defenders. Charlie Paquette pulled the puck from the pile and dealt it to the low slot where Cooper Dennis darted through to give the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead on his 3rd<\/sup> of the playoffs. Ryerson Leenders picked up where he left off in Game 3, denying a Kashawn Aitcheson shot that was deflected on the way to the net to keep the Bulldogs ahead. The lead bubbled on the power-play at 10:25, Adam Jiricek played low for Marek Vanacker who kept the puck through a battle and set it for Adam Benak in the right circle. Benak walked through the circle to the hashmarks before darting a shot over Hrebik for his 3rd<\/sup> of the postseason and a 2-0 Bulldogs lead. The lead was built further under a minute later with Caleb Malhotra forcing an errant pass from Kashawn Aitcheson in the offensive zone. Cooper Dennis collected the puck and set it low for Malhotra who drew Hrebik in before sending it across the face of goal to Charlie Paquette who again went over top of a sprawling Hrebik to give the Bulldogs a 3-0 lead at 11:17. Before the period was out, Ryerson Leenders got some help on the PK with Adam Jiricek knocking a rolling puck away from the goal line while Zack Sandhu put body on the line to block an Aitcheson one-timer, keeping the Bulldogs up by the 3-0 mark through 20 minutes.<\/p>\n

       <\/p>\n

      Opening the middle frame with a flurry, the Bulldogs line of Parker Holmes, Dylan Tsherna & Ryder Boulton nearly counted with Holmes finding Boulton in the left circle on a shot that Ben Hrebik just got enough of to turn aside. From there a tough moment for the Bulldogs as two penalties were called on the same play with Zack Sandhu being called for holding while Luca Testa was nabbed by the back official for hooking. On the 5-on-3 the Colts drew one back at the midway point with Cole Beaudoin and Kashawn Aitcheson combining to set Emil Hemming in the left circle for a shot that just beat Ryerson Leenders coming across to pull the Colts to within a pair at 5:43. The Bulldogs re-established their three goal lead at 15:17, when Vladimir Dravecky won a pair of strength battles along the left-wing boards to pull the puck forward and lay it on to Cooper Dennis flying into the offensive zone where he darted a shot over the pad and below the glove of Ben Hrebik for his 2nd<\/sup> of the game & 4th<\/sup> of the post-season to give the Bulldogs a 4-1 lead at 15:17. After another successful Bulldogs penalty kill late in the period, Charlie Paquette would avenge his penalty call at 19:39. Caleb Malhotra rolled the puck forward out of the Bulldogs zone where Paquette flew past Evan Passmore to collect it off the right side, turning to the front of the net, stretching Hrebik across his crease and tucking it in at the post for his 3rd<\/sup> of the playoffs at 19:39 and a 5-1 lead through 40 minutes.<\/p>\n

      Control continued into the third period for the Bulldogs, with Arvin Jaswal taking over between the pipes for the Colts in the final frame. On the power-play at 7:07, Adam Jiricek and Adam Benak exchanged out high before finding Caleb Malhotra in the right circle for a one-timer and his 11th<\/sup> of the playoffs and 4th<\/sup> point of the night to make it a 6-1 game and assure the Bulldogs the 3-1 series lead.<\/p>\n

      BARRIE, ONTARIO.<\/strong> The Brantford Bulldogs went on the road for Game 3 of the East Conference Finals as the series switched to Sadlon Arena tied following the opening pair of games at TD Civic Centre.<\/p>\n

      The Bulldogs appeared to get a dream start just 15-seconds into the opening frame as Owen Protz took a Luca Testa feed on the back side of the play and batted a puck past Ben Hrebik but the play was reviewed on a Colts\u2019 challenge and taken back on an offside. Ryerson Leenders was outstanding in the opening frame, stopping all 11 that came his way including a power-play rocket from Kashawn Aitcheson he stole with his glove followed by a low one-timer from Emil Hemming that the Bulldogs starter was able to kick aside to keep the game scoreless. The Bulldogs pounded 21 shots on Ben Hrebik\u2019s goal in opening period, dominating territorial possession. Ryder Boulton had a clean look right out front of the net that Hrebik was just able to grasp. Cooper Dennis fired 5 to the Colts\u2019 goal including a diving Hrebik stop on a 3-on-1 that looked labelled for the top corner to keep the game scoreless through 20 minutes.<\/p>\n

       <\/p>\n

      Second verse was same as the first with a dominant effort for the Bulldogs in the middle frame, not even allowing a shot on goal for the first fifteen and a half minutes of the period. The Bulldogs continued to pile pressure on the Barrie goal and finally earned their breakthrough at 12:00. Jake O\u2019Brien carried away from the defensive zone in a 2-on-1 with Jett Luchanko to his left. Attacking through the right circle, O\u2019Brien got the defender in the middle of the ice to leave his feet and drew the back checker to a full stop in the slot as he delayed with the puck on his hip, opening up Jett Luchanko back door who made no mistake firing in his 2nd<\/sup> of the post season to give the Bulldogs the deserved 1-0 lead. The biggest moment of the adversity in the middle frame for the Bulldogs came at with under 5 minutes left in the period, as the team had to kill a late 4-on-3 but were able to deny the Colts vaunted man-advantage and take the 1-0 lead to the locker room after 40 minutes.<\/p>\n

       <\/p>\n

      The final frame was a very tightly contested frame with the Bulldogs looking to secure the victory. Ryerson Leenders was again tremendous, denying 8 Colts shots in the final frame, including a couple late opportunities at the Colts pushed for the equalizer. With Ben Hrebik called to the Colts bench late, the Bulldogs denied entry on the left side of their blueline, with the puck knocked forward by Caleb Malhotra and collected by Gabriel Frasca who turned and fired it the length of the rink into the empty net for his 3rd<\/sup> of the playoffs securing the Bulldogs victory with Ryerson Leenders posting his 2nd<\/sup> career playoff shutout, earning the Bulldogs a 2-0 victory and 2-1 series lead.<\/p>\n

      BRANTFORD, ONTARIO.<\/strong> The Brantford Bulldogs returned to the TD Civic Centre on Friday night for Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Finals against the Barrie Colts. Coming off a hard-fought Game 1 victory and holding a 1-0 series lead, the Bulldogs looked to build on their momentum and protect home ice, while the Colts aimed to respond and even the series.<\/p>\n

       <\/p>\n

      The Brantford Bulldogs came out with pace to start Game 2, looking to generate early pressure after a tightly contested opening in Game 1. Cooper Dennis led the charge, walking into the Colts\u2019 zone and snapping a shot, but Colts netminder Ben Hrebik came up with the stop. At the other end, Kashawn Aitcheson attempted to drive a shot on goal, but Jett Luchanko stepped in with a strong block before it could reach Ryerson Leenders. Brantford continued to generate chances, with Parker Holmes getting an opportunity that was turned aside by Hrebik. Moments later, Mason Zebeski found space, but Leenders answered with a save of his own to keep the game scoreless. The Bulldogs were awarded the game\u2019s first power play and capitalized at 11:17 to take a 1-0 lead. Jake O\u2019Brien found Marek Vanacker in the slot, where he stepped into a shot and hammered it home for his 7th of the postseason. The Colts looked to respond with a man advantage of their own, but it was O\u2019Brien who generated a dangerous shorthanded chance, breaking in alone and attempting to deke past Hrebik, only to be denied. Barrie would find the equalizer at 14:46, as Parker von Richter fired a shot from the blue line that found Ben Wilmott at the doorstep, where he slipped it past Ryerson Leenders for his 9th of the postseason. The physicality from Game 1 carried over, highlighted by a heavy hit from Ben Danford along the boards. The Bulldogs earned another power play late in the period, where Caleb Malhotra attempted to set up Adam Benak for a one-timer, but the chance came just before the buzzer. After 20 minutes of play, both teams headed to the locker room knotted 1-1, with the Barrie Colts holding a 10-7 edge in shots on goal.<\/p>\n

      The Brantford Bulldogs opened the middle frame with 1:06 remaining on the man advantage. In the final moments of the power play, Adam Benak fired a shot on goal, but Ben Hrebik came up with a glove stop to keep it out. The Colts grabbed their first lead of the night at 5:22 to make it 2-1. Ben Wilmott fired the initial shot, and while Ryerson Leenders made the save, Brad Gardiner was positioned at the doorstep and directed the rebound past him for his 5th of the postseason. Brantford pushed to respond, with Marek Vanacker generating a chance, but Hrebik shut the door. Barrie then went to the power play, where Cole Beaudoin found space in the slot, only to be denied by Leenders. The Bulldogs created a strong opportunity as Gabriel Frasca raced out of the penalty box. Cooper Dennis got the initial shot off, and Frasca looked to jump on the rebound, but Hrebik made another key stop. The Bulldogs headed to another power play, where Adam Benak fired a shot that rang off the post and out. Moments later, Adam Jiricek tried to jam one under the pads of Ben Hrebik, but the Colts netminder made the stop. On another man advantage, Benak tried to get a shot through, but Mason Zebeski stepped in with a big block. The Colts capitalized on a power play of their own at 18:30 to extend their lead to 3-1. Cole Emerton found Kashawn Aitcheson, who fired home his 5th of the postseason. The Bulldogs responded quickly, cutting into the deficit just 23 seconds later. Jake O\u2019Brien set up Adam Jiricek at the blue line, where he blasted a shot past Hrebik for his 6th of the postseason to make it 3-2. Brantford earned another late power play and looked to even the score, but O\u2019Brien\u2019s drive in the final seconds was turned aside by Hrebik, sending the Colts down the tunnel with a 3-2 lead.<\/p>\n

      The Barrie Colts looked to extend their lead early, as Evan Passmore fired a shot from the blue line, but Ryerson Leenders gloved it down. Barrie restored their two-goal cushion at 3:52, as Cole Beaudoin fired a shot over the shoulder of Leenders for his 9th of the postseason. The Brantford Bulldogs then headed to the man advantage, but it was the Colts who capitalized shorthanded at 6:06. Brad Gardiner won the race and set up Cole Beaudoin, who buried his second of the game and 10th of the postseason to make it 5-2. Brantford continued to push and found a late response at 17:17 to cut the deficit to 5-3. Adam Benak found Adam Jiricek, who stepped into a shot and wired it home for his second of the game and 7th of the postseason. The Bulldogs pressed for another late goal, with Marek Vanacker generating a chance, but Ben Hrebik shut the door. The Colts would close out the night with a 5-3 victory, evening the series at 1-1.<\/p>\n

      BRANTFORD, ONTARIO.<\/strong> The Eastern Conference Finals stage is set as the Bulldogs take on the Barrie Colts. With the Bobby Orr Trophy on the line, the Bulldogs enter the series looking to continue their dominant playoff run and punch their ticket to the OHL Championship Series.<\/p>\n

       <\/p>\n

      The Bulldogs entered the Eastern Conference Finals with plenty of momentum following a picture-perfect start to the postseason, as they are undefeated with an 8-0 record sweeping both the Sudbury Wolves and the North Bay Battalion. The physicality ramped up early, highlighted by Ryder Bolton delivering a heavy hit in the Colts\u2019 zone. Moments later, Luca Testa led a breakout rush, but his chance was turned aside by Ben Hrebik, who turned aside the rebound. Barrie pushed back the other way, as Mason Zebeski unleashed a shot from the faceoff dot, only to be denied by Ryerson Leenders. The Colts continued to match the Bulldogs\u2019 intensity, with Emil Hemming laying out Zack Sandhu along the boards. Parker von Richter then walked in with speed and attempted to slip one five-hole, but Leenders came up with a key stop. Back at the other end, Caleb Malhotra connected with Cooper Dennis in front, who tried to lift the puck over Hrebik\u2019s shoulder, but the Colts netminder stood tall once again. Barrie came inches away from opening the scoring late in the sequence, as Joe Salandra rang a shot off the goal post. The Colts were awarded the game\u2019s first power play, where Cole Beaudoin found space in the slot, but his shot was blocked before reaching the net. Moments later, a broken stick from Zack Sandhu led to a quick passing sequence, as Kashawn Aitcheson set up Carter Lowe on the doorstep, but Ryerson Leenders stood tall to make the stop. After the opening frame, both teams head to the locker room deadlocked at 0-0, with the Colts holding a 13-7 edge in shots on goal.<\/p>\n

      The Bulldogs opened the middle frame on the man advantage and capitalized early, striking at 1:35 to take a 1-0 lead. With Ben Hrebik down in his crease, Marek Vanacker found Jake O\u2019Brien, who slipped it past the netminder for his 4th of the postseason. The Colts responded quickly, evening the score at 1-1 just under two minutes later. Justin Handsor connected with Carter Lowe, who fired a shot five-hole past Ryerson Leenders for his 4th of the playoffs at 3:32. Brantford answered right back, restoring their lead at 3:59 to make it 2-1. Edison Engle carried the puck across the blue line and moved it to Vladimir Dravecky, who set up Caleb Malhotra for a quick shot that beat Hrebik for his 9th of the postseason. The Bulldogs continued to press, with Adam Jiricek unleashing a blast that Hrebik turned aside. Moments later, Brantford broke out on a 2-on-1, as Adam Benak found Cooper Dennis, but Hrebik came across with a strong blocker save. On another power play opportunity, Caleb Malhotra hovered at the doorstep, and with Hrebik knocked down in the crease, the Colts netminder managed to reach out and glove the puck to keep it out. After 40 minutes of play, the Bulldogs headed down the tunnel holding a 2-1 lead, while also carrying a 28-19 advantage in shots on goal.<\/p>\n

      The Bulldogs opened the final frame on the man advantage and capitalized once again, striking at 1:15 to extend their lead to 3-1. Jake O\u2019Brien found Caleb Malhotra, who buried the chance past the Colts netminder for his second of the game and 10th of the postseason. Brantford continued to generate chances on another power play opportunity, with Cooper Dennis firing a one-timer, but it was turned aside by Hrebik. The Colts pushed back in an effort to cut into the deficit, as Mason Zebeski attempted a backdoor finish over the pads of Ryerson Leenders, but the Bulldogs goaltender came up with a key stop. The Colts were awarded a power play midway through the period, where Kashawn Aitcheson fired a shot on goal, but Ryerson Leenders gloved it down. Barrie would break through at 12:59 to cut the deficit to 3-2, as Cole Emerton set up Cole Beaudoin, who slipped a shot past Leenders for his 8th of the postseason. The momentum continued to swing in the Colts\u2019 favour, as they found the equalizer at 15:18. Mason Zebeski connected with Kashawn Aitcheson, who wired a shot over the shoulder of Leenders to tie the game at 3-3. Barrie pushed for the go-ahead goal shortly after, with Zebeski getting an initial shot through and Aitcheson jumping on the rebound, but Leenders came up with a crucial stop to keep the game level. With overtime looming, the Bulldogs found their answer late in regulation. At 18:25, Adam Jiricek set up Jake O\u2019Brien, who fired home his second of the game and 5th of the postseason to restore the lead. The Bulldogs would close it out from there, securing a 4-3 victory in Game 1 and taking a 1-0 series lead in the Eastern Conference Finals.<\/p>\n
