BULLDOGS TAKE THE BATTLE OF THE DOGS WITH 5-4 OT WIN OVER THE ICEDOGS
The Hamilton Bulldogs put an end to a 3-game losing streak to the Niagara IceDogs Thursday night with a come from behind 5-4 overtime road win.
Both teams came out a little tentative, but the chances started to come as the starting goalies, Hamilton’s Kaden Fulcher and Niagara’s Colton Incze had to be good. The Bulldogs got a power-play and took advantage as Ryan Moore (15) snapped a 14-game goal-less streak at 12:54 to give the Black and Gold a 1-0 lead.
The IceDogs were out-shot in the 2nd period 13-11 but still managed to outscore the Bulldogs 3-1 with two of their goals coming on the power-play. Brandon Saigeon (34) scored on the backhand for Hamilton, but Niagara took a 3-2 lead to the dressing room after forty minutes.
Hamilton needed a 3rd period comeback and that’s what they got. Kade Landry (4) tied the game 3-3 only to see the IceDogs re-take the lead with their 3rd power-play goal of the game. Hamilton kept the pressure up and Mackenzie Entwistle (11) tip home a shot at 13:41 to send the game into overtime tied 4-4.
The Bulldogs got a break as the IceDogs were penalized for firing the puck out of play at the end of regulation time which meant a 4-on-3 power-play to start overtime. It didn’t take long as Arthur Kaliyev (28) blew one by the Niagara goalie at the 30-second mark for the OT game winner.
Hamilton out-shot Niagara 42-34.
IceDogs goal scorers were Ben Jones (21), Akil Thomas (20), Sam Miletic (32) and Kirill Maxsimov (31).
