BULLDOGS LET ONE GET AWAY IN PETERBOROUGH
A four-minute span in the 3rd period proved to be the difference Wednesday night as the hometown Peterborough Petes skated to a 6-3 win over the Bulldogs.
Both teams had little success generating offense early, but the Bulldogs got things going as Jan Jenik (3) got one just over the goal line at 8:36. After the Petes tied the game, Hamilton re-took the lead 32-seconds later as a Kade Landry (6) shot squeaked over the goal line to end the 1st in Hamilton’s favour 2-1.
While on a power-play to start the 2nd, the Bulldogs gave up a short-handed goal to the Petes only to see Arthur Kaliyev (36) fire a one-timer glove side on the power-play to give the Bulldogs the lead back at 3-2. However, the back-and-forth affair would see Peterborough score late to send the two teams to the dressing rooms tied 3-3.
The Petes then caught fire in the 3rd and scored three unanswered goals in just under four minutes to take the 6-3 win.
Hamilton out-shot Peterborough 37-25.
With the loss, Hamilton’s season record falls to 23-23-3-1 while Peterborough’s improves to 24-22-1-1 as the Bulldogs, Petes and Mississauga are tied with 50 points in the tight Eastern Conference standings.
Peterborough goal scorers were Austin Osmanski (3), Michael Little (9), Christopher Paquette (20, 21), Ryan Merkley (9), Liam Kirk (16).
